Demi Lovato chats with Cosmopolitan For Latinas on being sober, ditching old friends, and why it's not important for her to date a Latino. These additional quotes from Demi's CFL cover interview are exclusive to CosmoForLatinas.com.

Her advice for other people turning 21: "When you turn 21 the first thing you think about is alcohol. I want to change that. I have fans that are going to turn 21 and I want them to know that there are other ways you can celebrate, not just by poisoning yourself and getting yourself into trouble or getting hurt and then going to the hospital, or even just wasting it on drinks when you could be doing stuff for others or celebrating the fact that you made it to 21 years alive."

On ditching old friends: "I look at my past and I think, 'OK, it was fun at the time, but looking back I don't remember a lot.' I had birthdays where there were a ton of people and everyone was drinking and going crazy. None of those people are still in my life today. Because they didn't care about me and … I didn't really care about them — I just wanted to party."

On whether it's important for her to date a Latino: "I have [dated Latinos], but it's not important to me — I don't have a nationality preference. I don't really have a type. I don't think that you fall in love with someone for their clothes or their style. For me, it's about the person."

On becoming a woman and finally gaining confidence: "It's important to define what beauty means for you, because it means different things for everyone. For me, loving and accepting my flaws as well as embracing all the things that make me unique makes me feel beautiful. Being comfortable in my own skin also makes me feel beautiful. For most people, growing up and all the changes you go through physically and emotionally are not easy. I can say the same for myself. It hasn't been until the last few years that I've finally felt beautiful based on my definition. I think it's definitely important for young girls to realize being who you truly are makes you beautiful."

On whether she'll talk more about sex in her music: "I'm not against it. Sex is a part of life and it's a personal decision. Some people put it in their music, which is awesome and good for them. But for me, there's still that weird feeling in the back of my head that's like, 'All right, I know that my mom and dad are going to hear it and my little sister, and that's really weird for me.' But if I feel like expressing myself in that kind of way, then I'll be like, 'All right, guys — look the other way!"

About the time she got buyer's remorse: "I bought a pair of Gucci boots that I never wore."
