Bridgerton landed on Netflix exactly two weeks ago today, and what a wild ride it has been. First we fell in love with the extremely intricate costumes, then we got the 'regency horn', then we all took our obsession to TikTok. Well now, we've all settled on a common goal: discussing - at length - the Duke's spoon.
You know the one. In the third episode of the hit Netflix series Simon Basset the Duke of Hastings (played by René-Jean Page) is in a cafe with Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) when the Duke really quite seductively licks a spoon and the camera zooms in on the action.
Almost instantly, fans flooded Twitter with comments and memes all about the spoon. One person tweeted, "Don’t talk to me unless it’s about the Duke of Hastings, THAT SPOON LICK or this round up of the hottest man on earth’s best moments," while another said, "I’ll never look at a spoon the same again."
Clearly we haven't seen this kind of inanimate object fandom since the Connell's chain incident of 2020, so it stands to reason that Billie Bhatia, the creator behind the Connell's chain Instagram account has launched her latest masterpiece, an Instagram account for the Duke's spoon.
The bio reads, "My spoon, my eyebrow, my cravat and my 🍑," and in just three days the account has amassed thousands of followers, with one in particular commenting what we all feel, "You are the peoples princess, thank you. *puts on my chain, grabs a spoon*."
While Connell's chain will always have a place in our hearts, 2021 is clearly the year of the Duke's spoon.
