A Connecticut man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday for wounding a Manchester man in a 2020 shooting that was caught on camera, officials said.
Jermaine Rose, 34, of Hartford, was sentenced by Judge Michael J. Gustafson to 15 years in prison, suspended after 10 years served, followed by five years of probation after a Hartford Superior Court jury found Rose guilty of first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit on Dec. 18, 2023, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.
On March 16, 2020, police received a 911 call reporting a shooting with a victim at 25 Wethersfield Ave. in Hartford. Officers at the scene found the wounded victim, Mark Thompson, and transported him to Hartford Hospital, court records showed.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Thompson said was in “severe” pain, which was a level “10” on the pain scale, according to testimony.
Witnesses testified during the trial that Thompson went to 25 Wethersfield Ave. after receiving a call at work regarding a domestic situation involving children, court records showed. Thompson immediately left work. After speaking to Rose about the domestic situation, Rose then said to Thompson, “Wait ’til I get you alone,” and proceeded to leave the scene before stopping, exiting his vehicle and shooting him in the leg.
According to court records, Rose then fled the area. Surveillance footage from the area near the scene of the crime showed Rose firing a gun at him before leaving the scene.
“The trial team worked diligently to bring this case to justice through work in the courtroom and support to the victim who suffered this senseless violence,” Hartford Judicial District State’s Attorney Sharmese L. Walcott said in a release on Wednesday.
Rose, who is a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing a firearm or obtaining a pistol permit.
