Charlie Morton has been named as a replacement player in the 2018 All-Star Game.

The move represents just how far Morton has come since his surprise signing in the 2016-17 offseason by the Astros. Morton wasn’t even sure he would return to professional baseball after several seasons marked by mediocre pitching and injuries. The Astros saw something they liked though, and would leave the baseball world scratching its head when they gave him a $14 million two-year deal.

Since then Morton has proven himself worthy of that contract and more. He would pitch the best season of his career in 2017 and go on to become the first pitcher to win two Game 7’s in the same postseason. He’s been even better for a majority of this season, and will be placed on the All-Star team for the first time in his career.

Congratulations to Charlie Morton for a well-deserved honor.
