In their never-ending quest to address a middling bullpen, the Astros acquired Yimi García from the Marlins for minor league outfielder Bryan De La Cruz this Wednesday afternoon.

García, 30, has picked up 15 saves for Miami this season with a 3.47 ERA and 4.63 FIP in 36 13 innings. While he won’t be the closer in Houston, the right-hander does fortify the club’s depth in the bullpen.

De La Cruz, 24, was slashing .324/.362/.518 with the Triple-A affiliate Sugar Land Skeeters this season. In 293 plate appearances, the outfielder has hit 12 home runs and scored 48 runs. While he wasn’t ranked among Houston’s top prospects, his departure does thin the outfield depth in the minors.

In other news, the Astros have also designated Austin Pruitt for assignment earlier this afternoon. The right-hander posted a 6.75 ERA in 2 23 innings thus far in 2021.

Stay tuned for more analysis about the trade shortly.

UPDATE: Austin Pruitt has been included as part of the package back to Miami with De la Cruz for Garcia.
