The Torrance Airport Association will host its inaugural “Hangar Hangout and Hotcakes” event at Zamperini Field on Saturday morning, June 15.

The event will take place at the ramp of Robinson Helicopter Company, 2901 Airport Drive, which has been based at Torrance Municipal Airport since 1973 and is a leading manufacturer of private helicopters.

The event is for the community to mingle and learn more about the airport, said TAA member Anne Minder.

“The community airport belongs to all of us, but they don’t really know much about it,” Minder said. “And when they come and get familiar with it a little more, they have such a good time. It’s so interesting and educational for everybody.”

Visitors will be able to get up close and personal with various planes and a Robinson helicopter at the airport along with Father’s Day-themed crafts and other activities from 8 to 10 a.m.

There will be about a dozen planes on display for the public to view, along with pilots to whom visitors can ask questions, Minder said.

Robinson will also have one of its helicopters available to view, company spokesperson Lee-Anne Jae Aranda said.

“One of our pilots will also be on site to ask them questions and to take some photos with the kids,” Aranda said.

For a $5 cash donation at the door, there will also be a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice, while supplies last.

The TAA is a nonprofit formed to promote the “safe operation and proper management of the Torrance Municipal Airport,” according to its website.
