The secrets to stylish stacking: Experts reveal the art of layering diamond jewelry

  •  A tennis necklace plays well with a longer Cuban chain
  • Adding movement to a ring stack adds interest

Marilyn Monroe performed 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend' in the 1953 film Gentleman Prefer Blondes.

In the iconic scene, the superstar is wearing a hot pink strapless gown accessorized with matching gloves and stacks of heavy handed diamond jewelry.

Seventy plus years later diamonds are still a girl's best friend, but we're wearing them in an entirely different way.

Once considered too flashy for daytime, modern gals like Nicole Richie and Zoe Kravitz are not waiting for a formal event to add sparkle to their outfit.

Industry experts reveal how to brilliantly stack diamond jewelry because every day is a special occasion.

A tennis bracelet is a status piece

The single row of diamonds sparkling on someone's wrist oozes a timeless sophistication that is unmatched.

'A tennis bracelet is classic so it’s automatically the perfect addition to what you already have on, whether that’s a handmade treasure or a designer bangle,' says Monica Rich Kosann, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Monica Rich Kosann.

'They move with you and go with everything day-to-night.'

The style comes in a variety of metals including yellow, rose and white gold, silver and platinum.

They can feature any diamond shape (including oval, emerald cut, round and asscher) in a continuous row.

'I personally love a classic diamond version which is a nod to the originator of the tennis bracelet, Chris Evert, who I have a collection with,' shares Monica.

'A new layer of bling always goes a long way!.' Even when paired with summer's popular beaded stretch bracelets or friendship styles.

Decorate your digits like a pro

The combinations are endless for ring stacking but for an intentional and harmonious look it takes a professional's help.

'I personally love to mix as many textures as I can when stacking - meaning pave, mixed diamond shapes, and the settings the bands are made with,' says Dara.

'I always look to add in an eternity style but it has to be with a twist! I look at juxtapositioning settings, making sure there are bezels along with prongs and again, shapes. For extra interest points, add chain!

'My Candy Drop double ring doesn't come off for this very reason. This is the easiest way to elevate a stack as it has chain and dripping diamonds.

'If you can add movement somehow, it is guaranteed to add an extra element of interest and playfulness.'

Within her collection Dara offers a cigar band encrusted with multi-shape diamonds, which can add dimension and wow factor to any stack.

This weekend Dara Kaye Jewelry is dropping Eternity bands (the "new classics') for easy mixing, matching and stacking!

The ace of diamonds is a necklace

The tennis necklace - the bracelet's cooler sister - has been spotted on the necks of celebs and streetstyle stars alike as of late.

And it's no surprise as it's the perfect piece for layering or wearing alone.

'My best tip to style a tennis necklace is to make it the centerpiece of your necklace set,' shares Keren Yoshua, Founder of Artizan Joyeria.

'A killer summer necklace stack starts with a heart-shaped tennis necklace that sits high on your collarbone.

'Layer it with a golden Cuban chain that's just a bit longer than the tennis and finish the set with an emerald charm for a fresh vibe.'

A hole lotta love

Soaring temperatures call for hairstyles that beat the heat like a loose ponytail or an undone chignon.

To look cool all summer long, invest in an eye-catching ear stack.

Designer and founder of TAI Jewelry Tai Rittichai, reveals her top tips to achieving the perfect assortment.

'There are so many different types of earrings that you can experiment and play with, including ear cuffs, ear jackets and linear drops,' shares Tai. 'It's all about mixing and matching.'

According to the expert, an interesting assortment is the perfect way to glam up a casual summer look.

'I personally love a stack that combines sparkly chains (like our linear chain earrings) with some celestial studs and ear cuffs.

'Once you build a collection, the combinations are endless. You can make an everyday dainty look with a mix of delicate huggies and studs or go bold with chunky hoops and ear cuffs.'

For balance, Tai suggests longer earrings at the bottom of the lobe with studs and ear cuffs working their way up to the helix.

'Studs are generally the most comfortable as you go up the ear, and smaller huggies work too.'

While sometimes overlooked, ear decoration can complete an ensemble. And like anything else we put on our bodies, earrings say something about our personality.

They give off an energy and vibe that can alter the wearers mood and confidence.

'A long earring makes us feel glamorous and an ear cuff can make us feel cool and edgy,' said Tai.

The latest trend in stacking according to the jeweler is creating a theme.

'For instance a nature theme with a mix of animal and flower earrings or a celestial theme with starbursts and gems.'
