Facial plastic surgeon reveals the cosmetic treatments that are no longer popular - and details what patients are asking for instead

A facial plastic surgeon has revealed three cosmetic treatments that he's not being asked to perform as much on his patients - and what they're opting for instead.

The information was shared in a new video posted to TikTok by California-based expert Dr. Prem Tripathi, who is the owner of Bay Hills Plastic Surgery.

Tripathi often takes to his social media accounts to share his wisdoms about facial aesthetics and trends in the industry, and this time was no different, as he spoke about the treatments he's been seeing less of these days.

First on the list was dermal fillers - a type of cosmetic injection that are meant to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, plump up the face and add some volume to sagging skin.

Oftentimes, they are injected into places like the under eyes and cheeks.

However, the injections have been a hot topic, with some doctors even claiming that it can last for decades and migrate on the face.

And, it's an injection that Tripathi isn't being asked to do as much on patients, he said.

'It's not to say that it hasn't been replaced with other things, people are asking for things like exosomes, fat transfers, biostimulators like Sculptra, while those have been a long time, fillers are just getting a bad rep,' Tripathi explained.

'And, for most of us in any sort of surgical field, we primarily have been doing filler pretty conservatively, not in huge quantities, but I'm just not asked to do very much anymore,' the doctor continued.

Next on his list was any sort of 'mini' procedure, like a mini facelift or a mini neck lift.

Mini facelifts are supposed to involve less incisions than a traditional facelift, per Healthline, and is meant to reduce the appearance of sagging skin.

'I think that people are a lot more savvy now, they figure that these are just maximal incisions and mini results, they don't last very long,' he said.

'And so, if you're going to address a particular issue, go in with your concern, so mini lifts have really fallen out of favor in my opinion, in favor of just regular facelifts,' Tripathi said.

However, he noted that this did not have anything to do with age, and instead was based on your anatomy.

The last procedure that Tripathi isn't seeing as much anymore was one that he said was 'surprising.'

'I'm seeing a lot less people ask for things like microneedling and opt for things like CO2 laser,' he explained.

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves poking tiny holes with thin needles in the top layer of your skin in order to stimulate more collagen, leading to a younger-looking complexion, while CO2 lasers are lasers that work to resurface the top layer of the skin in order to achieve something similar.

'I think there's, again, more knowledge around the fact that you can use CO2 lasers on all skin types and skin tones, you actually can get a really nice result with very little downtime,' Tripathi shared.

'I think in some ways, depending on your concern, it is superior to microneedling,' he said of the lasers.

In the caption of his video, he explained that people aren't necessarily doing less to their faces, but just swapping things out for these other treatments that are 'essentially better.'

And, in the comments section, many users shared the procedures that they were getting done themselves.

'I did three sessions of microneedling with platelet-rich plasma and have gotten sooooo much compliments on how flawless my skin is. Immediate results!' one person wrote.

Another shared, 'Facts! I just will not get filler and she always tries to push it on me for under my eyes and I'm like "I'll stick with the PRP and PRF thanks."'

'I think people become scared of filler because so many people overdid it. I've only had under eye filler twice in eight years and I'm 57,' someone else observed.

'I definitely feel like I get more for my money and less down time with laser treatments,' a second user admitted.
