People on the web have entered a fiery discussion about whether or not adults should be able to order items on the kids' menu while dining at restaurants.

It started after social media sensation Jake Shane - who soared to TikTok's comedy throne after he interviewed a slew of A-listers including actor Glen Powell - shared his lighthearted conversation with the popular sushi chain Sugarfish about the topic.

Jake begged the lavish restaurant - which has locations across Los Angeles and New York City - to allow him to order a side of rice, but the 24-year-old was shut down and told that the item was for kids only.

His followers flooded the comments section and shared their stance on whether adults should be able to enjoy the same meals as children.

The fierce discussion all began when Jake, who is close friends with online sensation Alix Earle, took to his Instagram story to reveal that he had heard that the restaurant had been serving rice only to 'select customers.'

Then, an employee behind the restaurant's social media responded with: 'Hi Jake, We allow side orders for children (dine-in only) because some are not yet eating sushi, and we think that feeding hungry children is a good thing for everyone's dining experience. We look forwards to seeing you soon.'

Jake immediately entered into a debate with the sushi restaurant and said: 'F**k are we beefing.'

The chain attempted to get back on Jake's good graces by replying 'never' alongside blue and white hearts.

However, Jake's pleas for rice didn't end there.

The 24-year-old social media star noted that he 'felt really awkward' and asked if their mind could be swayed by a poem.

He then doubled down on his request by emphasizing that it was extremely 'important' to him to get the rice.

The sushi empire then took a book out of his page and replied with a poem: 'Roses are red, violets are blue, Sugarfish rice is only for kids, not for you.'

Jake quipped: 'Give me the rice, please hand it over, is there a special spice, your face is anything but poker.'

When Sugarfish left his messages ignored, he added: 'Are you leaving me on read, is that what you do? Is it what I said? This is too bad to be true.'

Sugarfish then sent one last message and said: 'Don't think. Just eat. Trust me.'

Jake finished the conversation off by adding: 'Are you just stating menu items now?'

He shared screenshots of the conversation to his account, which he captioned: 'It's one side of rice.'

People on the web rushed to the comments section and shared their shock at the exchange - and many people sided with Jake and said that adults should be allowed to order off the kids' menu.

One person said: 'I'm pro Jake in this argument. Adults should always be able to order from the kids' menu.'

Someone else added: 'OK but it's still crazy that they won't give you rice.'

'I was in tears reading this, not all hero's wear capes… someone has to fight for us rice eaters,' commented another person.

One user wrote: 'Strict rules on rice is insane.'

A different user added: 'Why won't they back down? I'm dead.'

'I would literally never order from them now,' said someone else.

However, other social media users told the TikTok star to back down and respected the restaurant's rules.

One person said: 'Not going to lie, Sugarfish is iconic for this. What a gentle let down.'

Someone else added: 'Honestly Sugarfish kind of ate. I respect that they didn't cave for an influencer.'

'You seriously can't take no for an answer?' asked another user.

A different person commented: 'Jake, they may have won this one.'

One user wrote: 'Oh Jake… you're just going to have to make your own rice boo.'

Sugarfish - which is based on Chef Nozawa's sushi style - has previously addressed this issue on its website

The site states: 'Our rice is a very important component of the Sugarfish experience. We make our rice in very small batches, and in order to deliver Nozawa's signature warm rice.

'We make a fresh batch at least every 30 minutes, discarding any unused rice from the prior batch.

'If we allow all guests to order extra rice, it will slow our kitchen down and cause other guests to have to wait for their food.

'We allow side orders of rice for children (dine-in only) because some are not yet eating sushi, and we think that feeding hungry children is a good thing for everyone's dining experience.'
