Nurse practitioner reveals the best alternatives to Botox that will prevent wrinkles without the pricey injections

A nurse practitioner has revealed three alternatives to Botox you can try before you opt for the pricey injections - and they will actually prevent wrinkles.

In case you're unfamiliar, Botox, also known as botulinum toxin, is a type of cosmetic injection that relaxes the muscles by blocking nerve signals, per Cleveland Clinic, making them hard to move.

The injections are commonly used in order to reduce signs of aging and wrinkles, but it turns out that there's other things you can do for your face before you decide to take that leap.

The tips were shared in a TikTok video made by Beauty Boost Medical Spa based in Newport Beach, California.

In the clip was board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner Christine Tong, who ran viewers through a comprehensive list of what to experiment with instead.

The first thing Tong offered was to make sure your skincare routine was effective, and recommended some products that she will give her patients.

'Never underestimate a good skincare routine,' Tong said.

'One of my favorite products right now is the TNS Advance Serum, it has billions of growth factors my baby Botox in a bottle,' she said of the nearly $300 product by SkinMedica.

Tong explained that it is something that she gives to her patients that are pregnant and can't get Botox, and claimed it's the only product on the market right now that addresses sagging skin.

Of course, no good skincare routine would be complete without a retinol product, and she suggested a $140 one from brand Skin Better called AlphaRet, which contains a retinoid combined with an alpha hydroxy acid.

She also recommended a sunscreen to complete the skincare trifecta.

A second alternative to Botox is radio frequency microneedling, the nurse practitioner said.

'It's basically tiny needles that create injury to the skin, calling your healing mechanisms in the body to create more collagen, elastin and phybenogen,' Tong explained.

'It also has radio frequency, which is heat, to shrink wrap the skin,' she added.

Her personal favorite radio frequency microneedling treatment was one called Sylfirm X, which can be done in a medical spa or dermatologist's office.

And, finally, the last alternative that Tong recommended was a Hydrafacial, which is performed by using a special machine that works to exfoliate and resurface layers of the skin.

'Hydrafacials are my favorite treatment to do because it penetrates layers of hydrating serum into the skin, leaving it plump, the fine lines look smaller, pores look smaller,' Tong explained.

'It's my favorite thing to do before an event because it leaves your skin glowing for a week,' she concluded.

Tong's advice comes after three dermatologists shared with DailyMail.com their favorite Botox alternatives last year.

Some of their tips included using Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and wearing wrinkle-reducing patches like Frownies.

And, like Tong, the dermatologists also suggested sunscreen and retinol.
