Queen Mary leaves team of police officers red-faced after an unexpected flirty comment: 'So awkward'

Four policemen have been left red-faced after a flirtatious exchange with Queen Mary at the airport.

The glamorous Australian-born Queen was several paces behind her husband, King Frederik, at Nuuk airport when she addressed the men with a cheeky smile.

'How handsome you are!' she said in Danish.

The officers had been standing in the airport alongside their sniffer dogs to help ensure the royal couple's safety.

They shifted uncomfortably on their feet before thanking the Queen for her kind words.

She clarified: 'So... [are] the dogs.' And the policemen swiftly realised she had been talking about the canines, not them.

They roared with laughter and appeared to let out a deep breath they'd been holding during the interaction with the popular Queen.

The moment was caught on camera by Greenlandic state television KNR.

The Queen was praised for the joke by fans who found the good-natured exchange in a video on TikTok.

'She has a good sense of humour, our Queen,' one woman said.

Another woman said the exchange made her love the royal even more.

'She got you, great comment,' another fan said.

Queen Mary has made no secret of her love for dogs over the years - stopping to pose with and talk to many during her royal engagements.

She and King Frederik even shared the backseat of the car with a wet Border Collie during their trip to Greenland.

Mary's cheeky exchange with the police happened days after she was knocked over by an electric scooter in the street.

The Queen, her youngest children Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine and King Frederik were meeting the people when the accident unfolded.

According to local press the incident was deemed an accident by police who said the elderly man driving the scooter accelerated by mistake.
