An American man visiting Wales has been left gobsmacked after initially branding Welsh Cakes were 'trash'.

Kalani Smith, who goes by @kalanighosthunter on TikTokboasts nearly three million followers has been trying some of Britain's most iconic food - from Cadbury Creme Eggs to pie and mash.

In a video with over 413,900 views, the man from Mount Juliet, Tennessee, decided to give the humble Welsh treat a go after dropping the bombshell that one he tried in Morrisons was awful.

Venturing into Cardiff's historic market, the content creator had high hopes for the snack quipping that they smelt 'heavenly' as he approached the stand.

Chatting with a worker at Cardiff Bakestones, the American was left perplexed at all the different flavours of the biscuit-like item which is traditionally made sultanas or raisins

Peering his head over the array of golden baked goods, Kalani picked out a traditional welsh cake as well as a chocolate chip one and another packed with jam and cream.

Getting down to the nitty gritty of his review for his 3 million strong following, he quipped: 'Okay so they hooked us up with some fresh Welsh cakes who its warm.'

Initially tempted to cheat on his taste test and go straight for the chocolate chip Welsh cake, Kalani munched away at the traditional flavoured baked good instead.

Referring to his first - and negative - Welsh cake from Morrisons, the TikToker added: 'It's [the welsh cake] so much better.

'I feel like this would be really good with a cup of tea or glass of milk but its warm kind of like a pancake almost that's a delicious 9.4 for the fresh Welsh cake.'

Up next was the chocolate-chip cake, which Kalani suspected he would like the most because of his love for chocolate.

'Oh man. This is heavenly,' he murmured as he took his first bite, before adding: 'It's like a chocolate chip pancake in your hand but fluffier - that's a ten.'

Finally, the content creator tried the welsh cake filled with jam and cream, which he compared to a 'scone'.

Ranking his favourite of the three, chocolate chip came out on top, then the jam and scone flavoured sweet treat and lastly the traditional welsh cake.

'My favourite is probably chocolate chip and jam and cream second, and traditional thirds,' he said.

'Just because I like something a bit sweater and that reminds me of a pancake but  the chocolate chip is heavenly.'

The Welsh flooded the comments overjoyed to witness the American tucking into a the sweet treat.
