Mum issues urgent warning about Kmart Australia buy she claims is 'toxic': 'Parents, please don't buy these for your kids'

An Aussie mum has issued an urgent warning about a Kmart product that is typically targeted towards children.

Kmart's Thermal Print Camera is suitable for ages eight and up, but one mum claims the 'super cute' cameras use a thermal print paper loaded with BPA (Bisphenol A).

BPA, a chemical intended to harden plastics and prevent food contamination, among other uses, has also been linked to higher risks of obesity, asthma, diabetes, and heart diseases across over two decades of increasing scrutiny on the compound

'This is really important, I can't hold back any more: Parents please don't buy these for your kids, they're really bad news,' the mum said in a viral TikTok video.

A recent groundbreaking study in Australia linked a greater risk of autism in children with high levels of BPA in the womb.

The research, led by a crack team of Australian scientists from the Florey Institute at the University of Melbourne found if the chemical was discovered in a pregnant mother's urine, it more than tripled the chances a young boy would develop autism symptoms by age two.

Kmart Australia strongly denies any 'danger' and insists all Kmart products are compliant with Australian regulations.

'Ensuring the products we sell are safe for our customers is our priority, and we have processes to comply with required regulatory and safety standards legislated in Australia,' a Kmart spokesperson told FEMAIL.

'There is no BPA compliance issue in relation to this product.'

BPA is not banned in Australia but In 2010, the Australian Government announced a voluntary phase out of BPA use in polycarbonate baby bottles.

According to Food Standards Australia, concerns have been raised that BPA exposure may cause health problems for a number of years.

'However, when food safety authorities around the world have reviewed BPA they have generally concluded there are no safety concerns at the levels people are exposed to,' they said.

A woman who commented on the video said she was well aware of the BPA in thermal printing paper and agreed that the camera was unsafe.

'My mum bought one and I made her throw it in the bin,' she said.

Others said that it wasn't only thermal paper, but that common receipts were also 'coated' with the chemical.

'I don't even let my daughter hold receipts, I know it sounds extreme but they are so toxic,' one mum said.

'There's so much information on receipt paper, the BPA is at insane amounts, I don't let my kids hold receipts either,' another said.
