My parents are ruining my siblings' lives with the bizarre names they've chosen: 'Desperate and trashy'

A couple has been slammed as 'trashy' for the unusual way they've chosen to spell their children's names.

The eldest child of the family, who has a 'regular' name, said her parents went 'rogue' with her sister, who was handed the moniker Madasunn Blaykeley - pronounced Madison Blakely.

And her pregnant mother is set to do it all over again by selecting an equally 'embarrassing' future name for her unborn son.

'My parents have finally decided on a name, Riyenn Leighyehm, pronounced Ryan Liam. My poor brother, I can't imagine his future,' the woman wrote on Reddit

The distressed sister's post left many fuming over the ' 'selfish' and 'insane' behaviour of her parents.

Madasunn's name was jokingly dubbed a 'tragedeigh' by her older sibling, who admitted neither of them liked the choice.

'She hates her name and has said so many times that having to spell it out loud for people is so embarrassing,' she said.

The woman is now praying for her unborn brother after pleas with her parents to correct the spelling of his name fell on deaf ears.

People had no sympathy for the free thinking parents and labelled their need to be unique as 'pathetic' and 'insensitive'; many said the behaviour should be illegal.

'Ooof, start prefilling that name change paperwork now and give it to your siblings on their eighteenth birthdays,' one man said.

'That's not a name, that's a war crime,' another agreed.

Others said the parents' obsession with uniqueness was selfish and said they were only making life harder for their children.

'Good God, those poor kids. No offense, your parents are insane. They are desperate for attention and to be 'unique',' one woman said.

'If my parents gave me a stupid name like that I would hate them,' another agreed.

Others argued that the names were not only embarrassing, but that the children themselves would probably have trouble spelling them.

'Imagine if one of these kids had dyslexia, I’m a dyslexic adult and I still spell my very basic name incorrectly,' one said.

'And even if they’re not dyslexic, they’re in for a lifetime of jokes and bullying.'

Others said the 'bizarre' spelling of names is actually incredibly common despite being chosen for 'uniqueness'.

One said that simply spelling the baby boy's name as 'Ryan' would be more original.

'By the time Riyenn is in school all the kids will have 'tragedeigh' names and they will no longer be unique, Ryan will be,' he said.

'I have so much respect for this couple I know who've named every one of their seven kids old school, normally spelled names. They are already considered unique names because of tragedeigh people,' another said.

This isn't the first time that a child with an oddly spelled name has caused an outcry online.

An American dance teacher recently went viral on TikTok for talking about the 'trashiest' child's name she had ever heard.

'I get it, everyone wants to be different,' she said when she first saw the name: La/a.

'I looked at it for a long time and then thought - I've got it, it's Leia,' she said - but she was wrong.

After calling out for 'Leia's' parents the teacher was shocked when the mother snapped back with the correct way to pronounce La/a.

'It's La-dash-ah,' the baffled teacher revealed, discovering that the dash wasn't in fact silent.

'In what world, and at what time, is a dash not silent?' the teacher asked.
