Biden donor reveals 'grifting' advisors he blames for debate disaster

A top donor to Joe Biden has slammed three of the president's most trusted aides after the president's horror show at the first debate in Atlanta Thursday night. Tens of millions of Americans saw Biden look weak and raspy on stage at the event with Donald Trump. The Biden family gathered at Camp David this weekend for a summit to discuss their patriarch's political future as he slides further away in the polls.

While the family remains united in its 'unequivocal support' for the president - and with troubled son Hunter most insistent he remain in the race - others are wondering about the team that prepared Biden for the debate. Another person critical of some of Biden's trusted aides is John Morgan (pictured), a top Democratic donor and ally of Biden's younger brother, Frank. Morgan called out whom he felt were 'grifters' like former White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain, White House senior adviser Anita Dunn and Biden's personal attorney, Bob Bauer, who is Dunn's husband.

'Biden's advisers failed him,' he wrote on social media, referring to how Team Biden picked the debate format. 'Format was a disaster for him and a plus for Trump. He over practiced and was drained… who wouldn't be,' he added. He then specifically called out Dunn and Bauer for leading the president astray. 'Biden has for too long been fooled by the value of Anita Dunn and her husband. They need to go… TODAY. The grifting is gross. It was political malpractice.'

In an interview with the New York Times asking him for clarification, Morgan did not mince words. 'It would be like if you took a prizefighter who was going to have a title fight and put him in a sauna for 15 hours then said, 'Go fight,' he said. 'I believe that the debate is solely on Ron Klain, Bob Bauer and Anita Dunn (pictured).' Biden's family were reportedly also critical of the trio, asking what had happened in debate rehearsals, where Bauer was a stand-in for Trump.

Klain (pictured), was in charge of Biden's preparations, was questioned as to why they 'overloaded' Biden with stats and allowed Biden to show up looking 'pale' to the contest. However, the sources cited by the Times said Biden himself was not angry at any of them and still trusted the threesome. Despite mounting pressure from the Democrats to consider his political future after a car-crash debate performance, Joe Biden seems to be staying firmly in the race with Jill Biden stubbornly standing by his side.

And her actions over the past 48 hours are clear that she is the one firmly pulling the strings over her husband’s decision to stay in the race. She made it clear when she spoke to wealthy donors in New York on Friday night she knew how the debate was perceived but said she told her husband the campaign would continue. The CNN performance where Joe Biden meandered through answers and lost his train of thought sparked an unprecedented panic in the party. Top lawmakers and operatives were immediately considering their options.

But when Biden attended a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina , on Friday, he seemed like a different man. Jill Biden called it an 'amazing' event. During it, he admitted his debate performance wasn't ideal, but insisted he is staying put in the race. The crowed of more than 2,000 cheered him on. His defiant announcement came alongside the one person likely standing between him and a potentially historic decision to step aside: His wife Jill. Even though she knows he had a bad night at the first presidential debate, she is standing stubbornly at her husband's side and fighting back against the fears he will lose November's contest to Donald Trump.

The Bidens know 'he didn’t have the best first debate,' a source close to her told DailyMail.com. 'Is he the best person to be president, now and for the next four years? 100% yes.' ' She’s his wife of 47 years; she is his biggest supporter, biggest champion, and biggest believer.' President Biden has the nomination locked up. The only way for the party to have a different nominee is for him to voluntarily exit the race. However, it appears the president is fighting an uphill battle after Thursday's debacle. A poll released Sunday reveals 72 percent of voters don't think Biden has the cognitive faculties for another term in office. This is a seven percent increase from the same poll taken earlier in June before the debate.

Former White House physician Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) has repeatedly brought Biden's cognitive and physical health into question. He suggested that debate prep for seven days at Camp David was a way to get the drug cocktail just right before the showdown with Trump. Doubts increased from before the debate to after the debate over Biden's mental acuity and cognitive health.

Biden stumbled his way through the debate with Trump on Thursday, often speaking lowly, mumbling or losing his train of thought. When Trump was speaking, the split screen showed the President with his mouth ajar and a blank stare. The outcome resulted in a chorus of calls for Biden to end his candidacy – even from some of his biggest supporters. On the other hand, Trump's debate performance has only increased his party's support.

Fifty percent of registered voters think the 78-year-old has the cognitive faculties to run for a second term in 2024 – only 27 percent feel the same about Biden. Some are blaming First Lady Jill Biden for forcing her husband to continue campaigning for reelection, and Republican Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wy.) accused the first lady of 'elder abuse.'
