Democratic staffer fired after vial post on Trump being shot at rally
A staff member of a Mississippi Democratic congressman took to social media and said she wished the shooter who tried to take Donald Trump's life had better aim. On Saturday evening, shortly after Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, attempted to assassinate the former president during a rally in Pennsylvania, Jacqueline Marsaw (pictured), the field director for Mississippi Congressman Bennie G. Thompson shared a vile post on Facebook about the attack.
Trump was left bloodied and hurt during the assassination attempt as he was seen suddenly grabbing hold of his ear as loud bangs rang out and whizzed by before he ducked to the floor. Marsaw, 61, the president and vice president of a local NAACP in Natchez, Mississippi, has since deleted the post and her account, but screenshots have been reposted across social media.
She shared: 'I don't condone violence but please get some shooting lessons so you don't miss next time ooops that wasn't me talking.' In a follow up post, she said: 'That's what your hate speech got you!!' Marsaw has since been fired from her position. I was made aware of a post made by a staff member and she is no longer in my employment,' Thompson said.
Marsaw, who is also secretary, president and vice president of a local NAACP, was previously venerated as a 'hometown hero' by WJTV. Law enforcement sources told CBS News that Crooks, from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, had been armed with 'an AR-style rifle'. He was killed at the scene. A member of the crowd was killed in the deadly shooting, while two others who were wounded are in a critical condition. All three are males, according to law enforcement officials. After Trump was shot, the Secret Service swarmed around the 45th US President as piercing screams were heard from the MAGA crowd. He then got to his feet with blood pouring down his cheek and raised his fist in the air and defiantly shouted 'fight' while the audience shouted 'USA' as he was dragged off stage and bundled into a vehicle. Trump was taken to the hospital for treatment before being later released. Spokesman Steven Cheung said Trump is 'fine' and being checked out at a local medical facility while the former president's eldest son Donald Trump Jr said his father 'is in great spirits'.
About and hour later the bold post was taken down, but fury quickly rose with many suggesting she be fired for her outlandish commenet. Former Speaker of the US House of Representative, Newt Gingrich, was left appalled by Marsaw's posts. 'She should be fired today. Thompson introduced the resolution to cut off secret service protection for President Trump. With staff like this the poison is deep.' In April, Thompson introduced a ban on Secret Service protection for imprisoned presidents. One person tagged Thompson and asked him: 'Have you fired Jaqueline Marsaw yet?' 'What kind of a person are you that you would have someone like her working for you. Disgusting,' they added. 'You should fire this trash that works for you,' another furious person wrote.
Following the attempted assassination, Thompson took to X and shared how horrified he was. 'There is no room in American democracy for political violence. I am grateful for law enforcement’s fast response to this incident. 'I am glad the former President is safe, and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved,' he added. Thompson has been very vocal about his opinions on Trump, especially following the January 6 attack on the US Capital. On that day, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the capital building two months after he was defeated by President Biden in the 2020 election.
Thompson has posted about the attack several times and has a page on his website called the 'January 6th Select Committee.' DailyMail.com contacted Marsaw and Thompson for comment. In the hours after Saturday night's shooting, many conspiracy theorists took to social media claiming that the entire incident was 'staged' to boost Trump's electoral prospects.
Some X users hung their theories on the defiant images of Trump after the shooting. 'This is such a perfect photo it's hard to believe it is not staged. Photo of the decade. Absolutely incredible. Do you think the Trump shooting was staged?' asked one X user shortly after the incident. Kevin Rojek, special agent in charge of the FBI Pittsburgh field office, called the shooting an 'assassination attempt.'
Actress Amanda Seales posted a video online explaining why she thinks the shooting was staged. 'That sh** was more staged than a Tyler Perry production of Madea Runs for President. Where did the blood come from? So in theater, in movies they have what's called blood pellets. People use them for Halloween. It's basically a pellet of fake blood that's in your mouth and when you crush it the blood comes out. 'This was, I believe done to try to show his strength counter to Biden's fragility,' Seales said.
