Channel 4 pulls Simpsons episode after Trump assassination attempt
Channel 4 has pulled an episode of The Simpsons, which featured a shooter, following the attempted assassination of former American President Donald Trump.
President Trump was shot and injured while addressing a crowd at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Shocking images from the attack show the former president covered in blood after 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks shot him in the ear.
The secret service scrambled to protect Trump before he was rushed off the stage. Crooks, opened fire on the crowd from a nearby rooftop killing one rally attendee before the secret service shot and killed him.
Following the attack, Channel 4 decided to pull a planned episode of The Simpsons which was due to air on Sunday at 1pm.
In the episode, which originally aired in 1996, Lisa Simpson discovered that Springfield was actually founded by a fraudulent pirate.
In one scene a shooter could be seen perched on a building as a public gathering is taking place - imagery which is hauntingly similar to the incident at Trump's rally.
Channel 4 instead aired an episode from series 30 but eagle-eyed viewers noticed the last minute change.
In word reported by The Sun , one person wrote on social media: 'Wondered at first why Channel 4 just pulled the scheduled broadcast of 'Lisa The Iconoclast' but I think I get it.' Another said: 'I did wonder why a random later season episode was thrown in the middle of this Season 7 mini marathon.'
One social media user speculated that a member of the public might have contacted the broadcaster to voice their concerns about the choice of episode. MailOnline have approached Channel 4 for a comment.
