Costco refuses to sell do-gooder 50 hotdogs so he can feed homeless
A do-gooder has claimed they were prevented from purchasing 50 hotdogs to feed the homeless, saying workers cited a bizarre 'policy' that others have denied exists. In a short clip posted to TikTok , the man said he was able to use the self-checkout machine to put through the order but when it came time to pickup the food at the counter, he was told that he would only be able to receive a maximum of five.
Video shows the man punching in 50 hot dogs on the self-checkout terminal racking up a $75 bill. After paying with his credit card the man filming the video on his cellphone walks up to the counter to collect his order only to be left sorely disappointed. 'Hi sir. You have to refund your hot dog order. We cannot sell 50 hot dogs. Only 5 per person,' came the response from the Costco worker.
'You have a minute to eat it here. You cannot take it outside', came the bizarre response. The man filming remained calm throughout simply saying: 'Ok, good to know.' When the TikToker approached the customer service desk to obtain his refund he briefly told the cashier what had happened.
'I wanna give to the homeless but they can't do 50.' There was little pushback or discussion about the reasoning for the policy, but plenty of online commenters suggested he should have pushed back a little harder or maybe worked to have found a solution.
'I might have asked you if you’d mind waiting to get them cooked in the oven to make sure we had enough to sell to other members,' wrote one responder. 'That’s a lieee, I’ve literally seen someone with 30-40 hotdogs before,' said Shanna.
Others had less sympathy for the stunt and believed it could have been handled differently. 'I think with proper planning/called ahead/speaking to a manager and arranged a specific date and time for pick up they could do it,' suggested one.
'Just go buy a bunch of hot dogs and buns, cook them up and feed them. Why do you put blame on Costco?' added another. 'You could be polite and call ahead of time to let them know you’ll be needing x amount and they’re happy to accommodate. I’ve order 50+ this way for a celebration and they were so kind about it,' wrote user Bac Walker.
The video has so far received more than 360,000 views and is typical of other content on the account that sees the TikToker 'Tasting food gone past its best before date so you don't have to throw it away.
Other clips see the TikToker purchasing multiple amounts of food items with the intention of giving them away to those who are homeless , but when it came to Costco, on this occasion such good intentions fell flat.
