Baskin-Robbins is offering ice cream melt insurance

Baskin-Robbins is offering one-day-only melt insurance to customers who walk in with a melting ice cream cone. The ice cream parlor chain's participating US locations are offering a free scoop of ice cream to its customers who bring in their melted cone treat today. Anyone who is looking to get this insurance can do so by getting a Baskin-Robbins account and entering one of its locations with a melted cone.

'With Melt Insurance, we're beating one of the hottest summers on record in the coolest way possible,' said Jerid Grandinetti, Vice President of Marketing & Culinary at Baskin-Robbins. 'We want our customers to indulge in their favorite flavors without worry, knowing that even if their ice cream melts away, a delightful scoop is just a few taps away in the BR App.' Customers' melted ice cream cones do not have to be from Baskin-Robbins.

In fact, guests who made their eventual melted ice cream cones at home are allowed to get the free scoop. Before Baskin-Robbins customers redeem their scoop, they must create an account on the BR App so they can use the promo code. Account holders then add one scoop of ice cream to their carts for pickup, and apply the promo code: MELT at checkout.

According to the news release, the account setup and checkout process should take 'as little as 15 minutes' to complete. If Baskin-Robbins fans forget to bring their melted ice cream cones to the store, they need not to panic. The company confirmed in its August 12 news release that customers do not need 'proof of melt,' but they would need to have a 'desire for a deliciously cold treat.'

The free scoops of ice cream will only be served in a cone or dish, and waffle cones, sundaes, and toppings are not included in the promotion. Baskin-Robbins has been promoting their melt insurance on Instagram for the past two days.

'I don't know what's worse. Your ice cream melting, or your makeup melting on a hot day,' read a sign featured in an August 12 photo. Another sign from the Instagram post read: 'Don't sleep on ice cream dates.' Instagrammers who looked at the post named their favorite ice cream flavor, and at least five users said mint chocolate chip.

'Baskin-Robbins has hands down the best mint chocolate chip out there,' a commenter wrote. Others called melted ice cream 'depressing,' and one person noted that a melty treat on a bag is just as bad.

Despite the excitement, several commenters claimed that they were not able to download the BR app. The ice cream chain did apologize to one of the commenters for the issue and assisted them in making sure they could get it on their phone.
