Dozens of pre-made sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs are recalled over fears they're contaminated with deadly listeria
Dozens of pre-made sandwiches are being recalled across the United States over concerns they are contaminated with listeria.
The FDA announced Monday the company Classic Delight was recalling 25 products that were shipped to distributors in Arkansas, California, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.
Products include individually wrapped ham and cheese sandwiches, chili hot dogs, cheeseburgers, biscuits, pancakes and chicken and waffles and were produced between May 11, 2023 and June 6, 2024.
The food items may be circulating among distribution companies, which can supply schools, businesses, convenience and grocery stores and vending machine companies.

The recall was initiated after samples tested positive for listeria and the Ohio-based company is working with the USDA on the recall.
Production of the items has been halted as the company and government agencies investigate the source of the contamination.
The FDA has not received any reports of illnesses related to the recall.
Listeria is an infection normally caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium listeria monocytogenes.
Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, fatigue, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, stiff neck, confusion and loss of balance.
Most people who eat food contaminated with Listeria will not become seriously ill, but in some cases an infection can cause confusion, seizures, miscarriages in pregnant women and even death.
This can happen when the infection spreads beyond the gut and affects the central nervous system.

Severe infections are more likely to occur in more vulnerable populations, such as young children, the elderly and women who are pregnant.
The CDC estimates 1,600 Americans become infected with listeria every year, and about 260 die.
Classic Delight's recall is the second over listeria contamination so far in 2024.
In February, the CDC warned Americans of a listeria outbreak linked to dairy products sold nationwide.
Investigators said contaminated cheese, crema, and yogurt made by Rizo-Lopez Foods had been voluntarily recalled due to the potentially lethal infection.
The products were sold in a number of major chain supermarkets, including Food City and Whole Foods.
Twenty-six Americans became sick and 23 were hospitalized in 11 states, while two deaths were reported - one in California and one in Texas.
