Slush puppies! Pampered pooches get all wrapped up to brave the cold weather at Crufts
- A colourful array of waterproofs and onesies came out for Crufts in Birmingham
After being bathed, blow-dried and brushed to perfection, the last thing they needed was a snowstorm.
So out came a colourful array of waterproofs and onesies to ensure that these pedigree pooches, arriving for the start of Crufts, didn't end up looking like total slush puppies.
The most eye-catching get-ups included leopard-prints, a yellow woolly balaclava, and dinosaur-design coats with fabric spikes.
There was even a St Bernard – a breed traditionally associated with the snowy Alps – in a star-patterned blue onesie and, in case of a non-weather-related soaking, a pink drool bib.
Some smaller dogs were lucky enough to be carried into the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre by their owners. A fluffy white samoyed called Felicity enjoyed a sit beneath an umbrella.
While they might have had cold feet on the way in, the dogs were back in confident form once inside the arena as their owners got out the brushes and combs to get their pets' coats back into immaculate condition.
Billed as the 'world's greatest dog show', more than 24,000 dogs will be at this year's Crufts, including 3,457 from overseas. Organiser the Kennel Club estimates there will be 130,000 visitors over the four days.
