Pensioner who was savaged by a dog on his summer holiday claims the animal's rude owner threw his wife's phone in the sea when they asked him to apologise

  • Nick Carter, 70, was attacked by a terrier on his holiday in Hampshire
  • The owners ran away and hid as he chased them back to the holiday park

A holidaying pensioner was savagely bitten by a dog and said the rude owners threw his phone into the sea then ran away and hid when he chased them down.

Nick Carter and his partner Louise were out for a pleasant walk along the River Hamble in Warsash, Hampshire when he was attacked.

The retired police inspector was on holiday from Spalding, Lincolnshire when he was bitten by the 'small terrier'.

Mr Carter, 70, tried to take a photo of the dog which was off its lead and get the owners' details, but shockingly said they chucked the phone into the sea.

After he ran into the waves to get it, the pensioner decided to chase them down.

But they were so determined to avoid him that they ran away and hid in Solent Breezes Holiday Park, Mr Carter said.

The tourist said: 'Why are the dog owners trying to hide their identity when their dog bit me? It is outrageous.

'This couple have a dog who is out of control and they do not want to be identified.'

He called the police but they acted like he was in the wrong and were 'dismissive', he claimed.

'What would've happened if the dog had bitten a child on the beach? It is absolute madness.'

He had pursued the owners while suffering a thigh injury, which was dressed at Gosport War Memorial Hospital.

Originally, he thought he had been 'stung by an insect' before he stopped and looked at the cut.

A month on, he wants those who own the terrier to come forward and apologise to him.

He said: 'The dog, a small terrier with light tan fur, was let off the lead as we passed which is when it bit me.

'We tried to get details from the owners of the dog but they refused.

'When Louise went to take a picture of them, they threw her phone into the sea, all because they did not want to provide their details.

'I ran in and grabbed it but it is not waterproof, so the battery has been damaged.'

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said the case had been closed.

They confirmed officers attended and conducted a' number of enquiries', speaking with both Mr Carter and the owners.

'If we receive further relevant information in future, then the incident may be reviewed at that time.'
