Young motocross champ is killed after accident with machinery at his worksite

A tight-knit remote community is in mourning after a much-loved 24-year-old state champion motocross rider was killed in a workplace accident.

Jake Williams suffered critical head injuries early Friday while working at the Raglan St joinery in the central Queensland outback town of Roma.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and found Mr Williams unresponsive about 1.50am.

Tragically, he died at the scene.

In 2016 Mr Williams scored two Queensland Motocross Championship victories, winning the 15 years 250cc and also the 13-15 years 125cc at Hervey Bay in the state's south east.

Website Motoonline.com reported that 'Mr Williams simply dominated the entire weekend'.

Mr William's love of motocross is evident from his Facebook and Instagram accounts where he posted plenty of images and videos of him tearing around dirt tracks both for training and competition. 

He had a sponsorship from Yamaha, which provided him with bikes. 

Roma local Thomas Wilkinson posted a number of stories on Facebook about Mr Williams' death with the caption 'fly high brother'.

Friend Remi Kai wrote on Facebook that Mr Williams was 'taken too soon'. 

'A wonderful young man whose life was taken too soon. You did all who knew you proud and fitted so much into your life,' Alanah Ladbrook also wrote.

Thomas Wilkinson said, 'fly high brother' while Remi Kai wrote 'taken too soon, our dear friend,' 

It has been reported that Mr Williams was critically injured by a piece of machinery.

A Workplace Health and Safety spokesman said they were investigating the tragedy.

'Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is making inquiries into an incident that occurred at Roma … to determine if the matter was work-related,' he said.

'WHSQ were notified of the incident by Queensland Police Service who were the first responders to the incident.'

Police are also preparing a coroner's report.
