Lake Somerset: Horror as police divers retrieve a body from Queensland waterway after speed boat capsized

Divers have recovered a man's body from a popular dam in Queensland hours after his speed boat flipped and sunk.

Emergency services were called to Lake Somerset in Brisbane's north-west, shortly before 9am on Sunday.

A search and rescue operation was launched at the waterway, with the support of water police, specialist officers, aerial assets, and partner agencies.

The body of a 45-year-old Clagiraba man from the Gold Coast rural outskirts was located that afternoon.

'At approximately 4pm, officers located the vessel and one person deceased in the water within the search area,' Queensland Police said in a statement.

It's understood the man was the only one on board the speedboat.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Investigations into the circumstances of the incident are underway.
