Incredible moment man on night out climbs 20ft lamppost to rescue stranded seagull before sliding back down fireman-style

This is the incredible moment a man climbed a 20ft lamppost in Glasgow's city centre to rescue a stranded seagull before he coolly slides back down fireman-style.

The spectacled man was spotted scaling the designed metal street light in Sauchiehall Street on Sunday night after the Euro 2024 final.

Passers-by stopped and watched on in awe as shouts of 'no way' were heard as he pulled himself up to the top in rapid time as the bird flapped its wings in its continued struggle to escape.

He then hooks his legs around one of the 'branches' of the post - which is designed to look like a tree - before gently pulling the gull up by its wing.

As it flies away the small crowd below erupts into cheers and whistles as they applaud the seagull-saving hero.

After giving a quick double fist-pump celebration, there is a brief moment where it is feared the man is stuck before he swings his legs back round and styles it out as he slides down the post safely to the floor.

Iain Dunlop, a part-time barman who runs a garden maintenance and tree surgery business, captured the footage outside the Box Bar where he had been working the doors on the night.

Mr Dunlop posted the footage on TikTok with the incredible effort being viewed more than one million times.

He told the BBC the unknown hero who saved the bird was a customer at the bar.

Iain, who owns Total Treecall Scotland, said: 'I honestly could not believe what I was seeing.

'The guy must have climbed 20ft in the air to rescue the seagull. He was up and down in no time at all though.

'I was going to get my climbing gear from my car but before I had the chance he'd got up and down and freed the bird.

'It took him less than two minutes to get up and down. The seagull appeared to be grand and the customer went back inside the bar.'
