Fisherman inches from death after marlin almost skewers him in Gulf of Mexico

Shocking footage captured the moment a massive blue marlin nearly killed a fisherman in the Gulf of Mexico.

Fairhope Fishing Company shared a clip of the freak accident onboard the Jubilee Monday on TikTok.

A group of fishermen were reeling in a gigantic marlin when it swiftly jumped on board.

The cobalt blue and silvery white fish slid across the deck and nearly impaled the fisherman wearing tan shorts, white t-shirt and a visor.

'Close call on the Jubilee today. Thankfully everyone was ok,' the company said.

The angler screamed in pain as he fell and writhed on the deck as the marlin fell back into the water.

Commenters weighed in on the viral video which has racked up over 1.6 million likes, saying the fish was just fighting back.

'The swordfish said not today my friend,' one person said.

'Swordfish said "Yup you’re done,' said another.

One commenter added: 'That swordfish was literally fighting for his life! He was gonna go down swinging.'

A fourth wrote: 'Fish tried to even the score.'

Others were relieved the fisherman survived and noted it was a close call.

Blue marlin may can be over 12 feet long and weigh up to 2,000 pounds, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

'Bud, that's way too close. That was almost the day right there,' one person said.

'Not only did he see his life flash before his eyes, he hit the floor and assumed the position,' another said.

'Watch it in slow motion it was definitely his lucky day,' a third person said.
