DoorDash customer reveals why she will ALWAYS tip after learning a grueling lesson

A TikTok user suffered the consequences of her own actions after a DoorDash driver left her food painfully far away from her front door in retaliation for not being tipped.

The customer, Kaitlyn, revealed in a TikTok video that a dasher left her food 'so far away' in the gearing sunshine after she chose not to tip the driver last week.

According to Kaitlyn, the dasher forced her to 'play hide and seek' for 20 minutes until she found her raw salmon order in a sunny corner.

The TikTok user claimed that by the time she found her raw salmon, it was already cooked.

Kaitlyn was with two unidentified friends during the ordeal, and she proceeded to flip off the camera while holding her food.

Tipping culture has been a debatable issue, and 59 percent of US adults always tip a delivery driver, according to a study conducted by Pew Research Center.

In some cases, customers have stopped giving out tips due to menu item prices or tax increases.

However, gratuity is usually considered good etiquette for customers to use with food delivery drivers.

Experts have advised customers to follow general tipping guidelines and tip DoorDash drivers around 15 to 20 percent of their final bill.

Grubhub recently suggested that all its users who order off the app or website tip their delivery driver 20 percent.

This percentage would be the usual tipping etiquette if the delivery goes smoothly and the weather is good, according to the food ordering company.

The company added that customers should never tip anything less than $5.00.

This incident occurred less than a year after DoorDash activated a new notification feature for no-tipping customers.

DoorDash customers who decide not to tip their delivery driver will receive a warning that confirms their order would take longer because of it.

The DoorDash notification also reads that dashers have the option to pick and choose which orders they'd want to do first, which can also affect the wait time.

'Every day, Dashers go the extra mile to help connect consumers with the best of their local communities,' DoorDash Spokesperson Jenn Rosenberg told USA Today at the time.

'That’s why we encourage customers to show their appreciation by tipping.'

Minimum wage laws in New York have also made a difference in tipping after they led to DoorDash and Uber Eats giving all its customers in that state will not be pushed to give drivers a tip.

'As we have repeatedly made clear in recent months, the ill-conceived, extreme minimum pay rate for food delivery workers in New York City will have significant consequences for everyone who use our platform,' a DoorDash spokesperson said.

'These new regulations will force us to raise fees for orders in New York City. In order to better balance the impact of these new costs, we’re moving the option to tip in the DoorDash app to after checkout.'

Several TikTokers who watched Kaitlyn's video insisted she request a refund, and a few users suggested she use Uber Eats next time.

At least two commenters who claimed to be dashers revealed what they think of non-tippers, and one of them admitted he'd do the same thing as Kaitlyn's driver.

'To be honest - sometimes when I’m bored, I’ll take no tipper orders, and drop them in places that make it where DoorDash won’t get mad at me, but they have to walk far,' wrote a commenter.

Others insisted she 'always tip' a delivery driver, and multiple users have claimed they tip anywhere between $4.00 and $8.00 for every order.

'I never tip less than the miles it takes to get to my house and then some,' a DoorDash customer wrote.

'Honestly, I felt like I was getting royal treatment each time.'
