Floyd Mayweather has conquered the ring but now he has ventured into the world of luxury spirits... here's what happened when we opened a bottle of the boxing icon's Good Money Whiskey

  • Boxing icon Floyd Mayweather has successfully ventured into the world of spirits
  • He is producing high-quality Whisky, which will provide a 'luxurious experience'
  • Mail Sport travelled to Las Vegas to taste Mayweather's 'Good Money Whiskey'

Floyd Mayweather, known for his impeccable record in the boxing ring and his larger-than-life persona outside it, has successfully ventured into the world of spirits with his Good Money Whiskey brand.

Good Money Whiskey is a new brand that launched in 2024 as part of Mayweather's expanding portfolio of luxury brands and embodies his life philosophy: hard work, dedication, and enjoying the finer things in life.

By venturing into the whiskey market, Mayweather aimed to offer a premium product that would resonate with both whiskey connoisseurs and fans of his illustrious career.

So, we had to try it for ourselves.

Mail Sport flew out to Las Vegas to join Mayweather in the city that never sleeps, linking up at 8 Cigar Lounge located in Resort World to taste his Good Money Whiskey.

'Every adult wants to have something great to drink. And guess what? Together with my team, we developed and sourced the best exclusive products we could find to be offered to the public,' Mayweather said.

It didn't take long before Mayweather got behind the bar and cracked open a bottle of the brand's flagship product, a ten-year-old Canadian Whiskey - which is known for its rich, smooth taste and complex aroma.

Mayweather - who won world titles in five different weight classes during his storied career - explained how the aging process imparts deep flavors of butterscotch, spice and vanilla, making it a favourite among whiskey enthusiasts.

The undefeated champion went on to explain how the highly-sought-after brand offers a five-year-old variant, which, while younger, still boasts a robust and refined flavor, making it accessible to a broader audience.

The association with Mayweather's lifestyle – one of opulence, success, and refinement – also positions Good Money Whiskey as a premium product. He prides himself on being the best boxer that ever graced the planet and now insists his whiskey will follow suit by becoming the best brand on the market.

'It's just like boxing,' he said with confidence as he poured another drink. 'I had the best team, so I got the best results. I've got the best team on my brands, too. Just try it and you'll see.'

Mayweather went on to explain why his brand differs from the other celebrities who have ventured into the alcohol game - claiming it was all about his equity investment.

'I don't want to speak badly about any celebrities who have launched a product but there is a distinct difference between them and me. A lot of the time, celebrities market someone else's products. They don't have any ownership or equity.

'Of course I have business partners that are involved in this but do I have a crazy percentage in this? Of course I do. Absolutely. I didn't do all of this by myself, I had to have a team but I am central to the brand.

'Of course, my dad helped me. My uncles helped me. My partners helped me. There have been so many pieces to the puzzle but I have been involved every step step of the way.'

Though Mayweather himself wasn't drinking on the night, he spoke about how the brand is designed to provide a luxurious and enjoyable experience to consumers, stating Good Money is about embracing the good times and making memories that last a lifetime.

The packaging of Good Money Whiskey also reflects its high-end positioning. The bottles are elegantly designed, with sleek lines and sophisticated labeling that exude luxury.

'I'm to the extreme when it comes to these things. For example, personally, I take pride in being well groomed.

'I've got to make sure I get a manicure and pedicure every week. I'm very particular about certain things and I feel like that comes across in my brands.

'Just look at the packaging and the label. Not only does it taste the best, it looks the best.'

Good Money Whiskey has strategically expanded its distribution to cater to a wide audience while maintaining its exclusive appeal. The brand has gradually extended its reach to other key markets, including California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Illinois, Florida, New York, Kentucky, Tennessee and Nevada.

The brand has also made significant inroads in high-end bars, restaurants, and clubs, particularly in Las Vegas, where Mayweather's influence is strongest. But, the Money team are exploring opportunities for international expansion, targeting markets in Europe and Asia where premium American whiskey is in high demand.

When asked what the long-term goal was for both brands, Mayweather said: 'It's all about growth, it's about giving people around the world a great product. The ultimate goal is to have it all around the world.

'For example, with Le Bon Argent, it's not sparkling wine. It's from the Champagne region in France. A lot of the time, people are bottling sparkling wine and trying to claim it's champagne. This is champagne, this is the best. We have the best on the market, hands down.'

In terms of Mayweather's whiskey, the ten-year-old Canadian Whiskey in particular has garnered positive reviews from critics and consumers alike. Its rich flavor, smooth finish, and overall quality have been praised, earning it a respectable place in the competitive whiskey market.

While Mayweather's Le Bon Argent champagne is ranked in the top percentile - with the Rose earning a 95 per cent rating because of its bright natural flavors.

'I am very particular about certain things, especially about my products. When they first brought the champagne to me, I wanted to make changes, I wanted to ensure it was the best.

'Me and my two best friends would travel the world and I would see a lot of people drinking Moet. I would see people drinking Perrier-Jouet Rose. But, we wanted to create something that was better.

'The first time, when we tested the product, we were like no. We wanted to make sure we had the best product so we made a lot of changes. We told them to go back, do some more homework and come back with a better product.

'Don't get me wrong, we wanted to release our products and get them out there but we decided to wait until it was perfect. Once they got the product right, we knew immediately and decided to roll with it.'

It's safe to say the Good Money products are more than just a business venture for Mayweather; they are an extension of his legacy. By creating a premium whiskey and champagne brand, Mayweather has successfully translated his values of hard work, excellence, and luxury into a product that resonates with consumers.

Mayweather will return to the ring this summer for a rematch against John Gotti III - the grandson of the late mob boss - having first faced the 31-year-old back in June 2023, with the fight ending in chaos after a brawl broke out when people stormed the ring.

When asked why he decided to give Gotti the opportunity to fight him in the first place, he told Mail Sport: 'An opportunity was presented to me a couple of years ago but things didn’t pan out.

'I’ve known the Gotti Family for many years. I usually do my exhibitions overseas but when I had one in the states I gave him the opportunity because he was tough and dream was to fight me one day even though he fights mainly MMA.'

Mayweather also opened up on how much money he typically makes from exhibition bouts, claiming he's has offers of $300million sitting on his phone right now.

'I have plenty of offers I could show you on my phone. $300million, $100million, $50million, $20million, $17million. They are all offers sat on my phone right now. It all depends but if you pay, we play. It's as simple as that.'
