Wolves are 'hoping to keep Ruben Neves until at least the summer as they slap £40m price tag on the midfielder' in a bid to stave off interest from Manchester United and Arsenal
- Wolves' Ruben Neves will not be leaving this month for anything less than £40m
- The Portuguese midfielder is on the radar of Manchester United and Arsenal
- With Adama Traore expected to leave, it is unlikely Wolves would let Neves go
- Neves joined for a Championship-record fee in 2017 and has played 197 games
Wolves are reportedly confident they will keep star midfielder Ruben Neves despite interest from Manchester United and Arsenal after they put a £40million price tag on the Portuguese player.
Neves has been an ever-present in the Molineux side since he joined Wolves from Porto in 2017 for a Championship record fee of £15.8m.
In his first season, he helped guide Wolves to the Championship title under Nuno Espirito Santo and was able to make the step-up to life in the Premier League.
Wolves are hoping a £40million price tag will be enough to keep Ruben Neves at the club
The Portuguese midfielder has drawn interest from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal
He has made 128 appearances in the competition, scoring 13 goals, and has featured in all but two of Wolves' league games this season.
His consistency as well as his age has put him on the radar of clubs such as United and Arsenal who are rumoured to be mulling over a bid for the 24-year-old.
Wolves are keen to keep their star man though and, according to The Sun, have put a £40m price tag on him in an effort to ensure he stays at the club until the summer at least.
But Wolves are keen to keep the 24-year-old, who joined in 2017, until at least the summer
Neves signed for a Championship-record fee from Porto in 2017 and is a key player for Wolves
United were first interested in Neves last summer but were reportedly not willing to go higher than £35m in their efforts to secure his signature.
Ralf Rangnick's side were again reported to be interested following the Portuguese's impressive performance at Old Trafford earlier this month but a bid has yet to materialise.
With Adama Traore expected to leave the club imminently to join Barcelona, it is unlikely that Wolves would be willing to let Neves go with only a few days left in the transfer window to find a replacement.
A fee over £40m would make Neves the most expensive departure in Wolves' history, breaking the previous record of £40.2m set by Diogo Jota and his move to Liverpool in 2020.
With Adama Traore expected to leave, it is unlikely Wolves would want to let Neves go as well
Diogo Jota is the current record departure from Wolves having left to join Liverpool for £40m
