Gary Lineker tells Harry Kane to LEAVE Tottenham and join Bayern Munich as he insists 'the game is about winning team honours rather than individual records'

Gary Lineker has urged Harry Kane to follow in his footsteps by leaving England for Europe and has stressed a move to Bayern Munich makes total sense for the England captain.

Kane is being hotly pursued by the Bundesliga champions who have submitted a final offer in excess of £86million for the Spurs talisman with a deal hanging in the balance.

The England captain would undoubtedly end his trophyless career drought by moving to Munich and Lineker has explained the 'time is right' for Kane to leave. 

Speaking to the Sun, Lineker said: 'I think Harry will leave Tottenham - and he should do. I think he wants to go and that they will make it happen.

'The time is right for him, and the right club has come in for him. Munich is a lovely city and Bayern are one of the great clubs in world football.

'Alan Shearer is willing to drive Harry to the airport because he wants to keep his Premier League goalscoring record intact.

'But Harry is already the all-time record scorer for England and Tottenham.

'The game is about winning team honours rather than individual records and that is what Harry needs.

'I don't see Spurs finishing even close to the top four next season.

'And if Harry doesn't win trophies with Bayern then he really must be a jinx.'

Kane has spent the entirety of his professional career at Tottenham, with the exception of loan spells at Millwall, Leyton Orient, Norwich and Leicester, rising through the ranks to become one of the Premier League's greatest strikers.

The 30-year-old has scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for Tottenham and winning three Premier League top scorer awards, but has failed to secure any team honours.

Meanwhile, Bayern - coached by Thomas Tuchel - have lifted the German top-flight title consecutively for the last 10 years and were further boosted by securing the Champions League in 2020.

Lineker is speaking as a man of experience given he previously left Everton to join Barcelona in 1986, spending three years at the Nou Camp and enjoying success in Spain.

However, the iconic presenter was also part of Tottenham's last FA Cup-winning team in 1991 and understands the pressures that his former club would be under if Kane departs.

'In no way can you argue that it would be good for Spurs to lose Harry, even in the long-term,' he said.

'It's not just his goalscoring, but his assists, his all-round game and his leadership qualities.

'But when he is entering the last season of his contract, then for me it makes sense for Spurs to take £80m or £100m now rather than risk losing him for nothing,' he added.
