DEAR ENGLAND: On the biggest day of their careers, a message to the Three Lions squad from the people who know them best

The Euro 2024 final is almost upon us and England's players will once again try and make history.

Claim victory on Sunday night, and each player will be etched into their country's history forever.

Here, those know know the players best pen their final good luck messages ahead of the game.

Harry Kane v Dani Olmo

In what has been a largely underscoring Euro 2024 for Europe's top strikers, Harry Kane and Spain's Dani Olmo find themselves in a strong position to win the tournament's fabled Golden Boot.

Both are tied amongst a group of other players on three competition goals and are expected to start for their respective nations in the final showdown in Berlin.

The trophy that they will get if they become top scorer? No it's not some glitzy and glamorous design but is instead this bizarre golden skeleton design that will offer little consolation to Kane if England fail to win.

It's officially FINAL DAY

We've crept into the early hours of Sunday morning and that means we are now officially on the day that England could end their 58-year wait as they meet Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Gareth Southgate and his Three Lions squad will be fast asleep in Berlin - or at least we hope they are - and when they wake will carry the weight of the nation on their shoulders as they attempt to create history.

Spain will fancy their chances after dominant performances in Germany so far, but England stand in their way and are desperate to seal Euros silverware just three years on from their final defeat against Italy.

The countdown is ON, welcome to Euro 2024 final day and what a 24 hours we are in store for.

People are only just realising why England play in white - and it's all thanks to Scotland

England's iconic white shirt will again be represented in tomorrow's Euro 2024 final, but it may not have been the case if it wasn't for Scotland.

England have typically donned white since the first-ever international fixture against Scotland in 1872 - a goalless draw and has since stood the test of time.

Gareth Southgate is set to make a decision on his England future after Euro 2024 final

CRAIG HOPE IN BERLIN: Gareth Southgate will make a decision on his England future this week and could yet stay on for the World Cup in 2026, with his players urging him to sign a new contract regardless of what happens in Berlin on Sunday evening.

England head into the final with 'no fear'

Gareth Southgate has just concluded his pre-final press conference and issued a vow of confidence in his players before doing so. England have a chance at history when they take on Spain and the Three Lions boss insists his side will play without 'fear'.

'I couldn’t wish for anything more than representing my country, first as a player and then as a manager to lead my nation,' he said.
'I head into tomorrow with no fear as I’ve seen it all before.'

Southgate: 'Victory would give us respect from the football world'

The England manager has been here before and knows England must now beat Spain to regard themselves amongst the world's best footballing nations.

No major men's silverware has called England home since 1966 and tomorrow represents a first final on foreign soil for the Three Lions as millions back home wait to see if this will be their moment.

Southgate believes England must win to call themselves elite, explaining: 'We tried to change the mindset from the start. I watched highlights reels they show before games and we weren't in any of them as they only show the finals!
'In the end, you have to be always in the latter stages of the tournaments to learn how to win those games. We know we have to win this one and win this trophy to feel the respect from the rest of the football world.'

Kane hails 'fantastic' Lamine Yamal

It's not often that players will praise opposition rivals on the eve of such a big match, but Harry Kane has issued a glowing review of Spain's Lamine Yamal.

The Spanish teenager has just turned 17 today and has been one of the star's of the tournament, with England needing to be on red alert when they come up against the forward in Berlin.

Speaking at Saturday's press conference, the England skipper said: 'Happy birthday to him for today. He's been a fantastic player, at 17 to do what he is doing on this big stage is a great achievement for him.
'He is playing with no fear and enjoying the occassion, he is a definite threat and we have to be ready for that. All I can say is well done to him for his short career so far and it's been a very good one.'

Harry Kane recalls Euro 2020 heartbreak

This is familiar territory for England as they competed in the last European Championship final and eventually losing to Italy on penalties at Wembley.

Kane as England's captain had to lead the line up to get their runners-up medal on that occasion and the Three Lions skipper is keen to use that heartbreak as inspiration against Spain.

'I'm always someone who tries to learn from disappoint and tough times, it helps me improve. I'm excited to be back in another Euros final, and now it's all about executing the gameplan we want and getting over the line.
'We done fantastic in a lot of tournaments.'

Southgate hails England's tournament development

It's been a largely frustrating tournament for England as they underwhelmed in the group stages before fighting to reach the semi-finals where they produced their best performance at Euro 2024 against the Netherlands.

Southgatehas outlined how he is proud of their development, explaining on Saturday:

'We've had to find a different way of playing as the tournament progressed. We had a lot of issues in the squad heading into the tournament, particularly at the back.
'We've tried to find the right balance, like in attack as there are players who like to play in similar positions.
'We now look dangerous and look like we can score goals again.'

Declan Rice urges England to channel Lionesses spirit

England's men's team ca wrtie themselves into folklore tomorrow by delivering a first major honour since 1966 and Declan Rice believes there is lots to learn from the Lionesses triumph two-years ago.

Rice is expected to start against Spain in Sunday's final and issued a rallying call ahead of the huge sliverware clash.

Lamine Yamal celebrates turning 17

What a weekend this could turn out to be for Lamine Yamal who has already set the tournament alight and is now set to play a major role in Spain's bid to win Euro 2024 after turning just 17 today.

Yamal's inclusion in Spain's tournament squad was scolded by some critics at first, but the Barcelona prodigy has more than justified his selection.

The Spanish team have presented him with a surprise birthday cake at the team's training base, any guesses for what he wished for when blowing out the candles?

Harry Kane faces awkward questions over his Euro 2024 final involvement... here's how Gareth Southgate answers them, writes RIATH AL-SAMARRAI

RIATH AL-SAMARRAI: There would be an unusually large number of happy people if Harry Kane doesn't start against Spain . I can think of 12 in particular and they will all be on the pitch in Berlin on Sunday evening or very close to it.

You will know the names of those it might delight the most. But we can list them here — Rodri, Nacho, Alex Grimaldo, Aymeric Laporte , Jesus Navas, David Raya, Marc Cucurella , Dani Olmo, Mikel Merino, Alvaro Morata , Joselu and Ayoze Perez. They all have something in common.

15:42

Spain head for Berlin!

And just like that both of the two finalists are on their way to the German captial for the Euro 2024 final. Coincidentally, Spain are the only ever team to reach consecutive European Championship finals, winning in both 2008 and 2012 with a World Cup title in between as well.

The Spanish have been arguably the best pefromers at the tournament, with their brand of free-flowing attacking football generating plenty of support from plaudits, but England provide an alltogether different test.

There is plenty of optimism in Spain's ranks that England are keen to dash.

15:31

England set off for Berlin!

Things are starting to feel real now as England have just said goodbye to all the staff at their Euro 2024 headquarters in Blankenhain and are now on their way to Berlin!

Their tournament headquarters has provided England with a stable base away from prying eyes and it was nice to see players interact with those who have looked after them.

Not too sure if the German staff will be as delighted as Gareth Southgate's squad are after the host nation crashed out the competition in the quarter-finals - despite what their Three Lions tops might suggest.

Harry Kane and Declan Rice's brothers go wild

Well, it's best that they do this with fellow fans and not their brothers.

Harry Kane and Declan Rice's siblings have been found 'force feeding' England followers shots in a German bar.

A handful of them were even afforded the rather surreal experience of having the siblings of two of England's best players passionately implore them to down shots in the aptly named 'Irish Pub'.

German authorities might force Spain to take off Lamine Yamal after 90 minutes of the Euros final, according to reports.

But why could Spain be at risk? Read about it here.

Gary Lineker has spoken out to clarify his comments made on his podcast, the Rest is Football, where the former England star criticised England's performances during the group stages of the tournament.

Are we going to get a bank holiday on Monday if England win?

Right, let's not tempt fate, but if England win on Sunday at Euro 2024 there has been a lot of talk over whether the country should receive a bank holiday.

It'll be the first time the men's team has won a trophy since 1966 - ending years of hurt, with England now able to avenge their defeat by Italy in the final of Euro 2020.

Eurphoric celebrations will erupt around the country should Gareth Southgate's side beat Spain, with some football fans threatening that they will call in sick to work on Monday.

Bosses are bracing for a wave of sickies after new Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer raised hopes of a national day of celebrations could potentially happen.

Shops, schools and some businesses will be opening later on Monday, while Tesco Express stores will be closing early on Sunday to allow employers to watch the match.

Spain's monstrous midfield will build a Berlin Wall... Declan Rice and Co must tear it down to lead England to Euros glory, writes OLIVER HOLT

Lamine Yamal has attracted the headlines in recent days but perhaps the most formodable aspect is Spain's midfield, composed principally of Rodri and Fabian Ruiz.

They have been two of the best players at Euro 2024, the best midfield pairing, and pose a considerable threat to England's engine room.

Stopping them is the key to stopping Spain.

He's really been trying to lose one, I promise...

Don't get your head turned now, Ivan! Man United 'interested in Toney'

Manchester United are reportedly interested in England and Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

After holding a recruitment meeting at Carrington on the first day of pre-season on Monday, United have wasted no time pressing ahead with their transfer plans.

But now really isn't the time to distract him, is it? Can't all these transfer gnomes wait a few days before tormenting us?

New sprinklers, please!

In an unorthodox twist to training, England's stars have been soaked by a sprinkler with a mind of its own and mischievous intent.

Gareth Southgate's gang belong with the European elite, writes IAN LADYMAN

In his column, Ian Ladyman traces England's tournament and charts Gareth Southgate's route back into the hearts of the nation when some lost faith after the 2022 World Cup quarter-final exit.

Could we ever beat a top team, fans wondered? Now is the chance.

As Ladyman writes;

'Southgate and his players did not expect to get to the final of Euro 2024 in the manner in which they have. England’s football here in Germany has spoken of some of the English game’s traditional ills.

'Tiredness, fear, uncertainty. Some habits have been devilishly hard to break. But such is the rich seam of talent from which Southgate is able to mine, England have got here anyway largely on the back of big individual moments.

'This is not the way it used to be. It used to be the preserve of other nations.'

Revealed: The one star Marc Cucurella hopes 'stays on the bench'

Spain and Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has identified one member of England's squad he hopes stays on the bench when La Roja meet the Three Lions.

Cucurella has impressed with his performances for Luis de la Fuente's men, with his displays seeing him selected ahead of Bayer Leverkusen's Alex Grimaldo at left-back.

That good form doesn't spare him from having trepidations about one man in particular, though, saying it would be 'MUCH BETTER' if he stays off the pitch.

And no, he's not talking about me.

Southgate will be hoping to have any other critics off his back with a win - and he admitted he wants to win so badly that it 'hurts'.

England fans hit Berlin in their thousands

England's fans have been scrambling to Berlin to cheer on England.

Not many people thought we would make it this far on the basis of how we opened the tournament and it's safe to say a lot of last-minute plans have been thrown together.

You love to see it.

IAN LADYMAN on when England's Euros changed

Ian Ladyman has reflected on a key decision taken by Gareth Southgate which rejuvenated England and injected some life their Euro 2024 campaign.

No other big moments at Euro 2024 them come close in importance to what happened at half-time in Cologne after Southgate had watched his team toil so desperately for 45 minutes against Slovenia in their final game in Group C.
That was the day of the plastic beer cups. The day Southgate approached his team's supporters at full-time and returned to the dressing room with half a pint of Carlsberg on his brogues.
It was probably the most forgettable game of England's forgettable group stage. A look back at the statistics now show that there was a total of five shots in the game. Suffice to say none of them ever looked like going in.

And then Gareth Southgate made a decision which changed England's tournament.

England fans rush to Berlin

Just listen to that beeping!

One fan has posted their view from a ferry queue at 2am and it would seem some supporters were getting frustrated.

Let's hope they all make it in time and find somewhere good to watch the game.

Gareth Southgate goes all Texas

I did not expect to see Gareth Southgate riding a rodeo bull as I get in the mood for this final, that's for sure. Now I can't unsee it.

All good things come to an England, and you will be able to see in that preview image that Southgate met his maker after his attempt to stay on.

Let's hope it's not a bad omen for tomorrow...

Lamine Yamal turns 17

It's the battle of the birthday boys between Marc Guehi and Lamine Yamal.

Yamal has turned 17, which I think makes him sound a lot older than 16 for some reason, but let's not forget how incredibly young and precocious he still is.

For context, Kylian Mbappe became the youngest French goalscorer in WOrld Cup history in 2018 when he scored against Australia at the age of 19.

That's a good couple of years older than Yamal is today. And it feels like Mbappe has been around forever, even though he's only 25.

Are we seeing a star who could be gracing the pitch for the next two decades?

09:48

Roy Keane and Gary Neville's combined XI is revealed... but which England star brutally misses out after his heroics this tournaments?

I probably agree with most of this, but one of two players will have complaints. Ian Wright was chirping up to try and stop them from one call!

On his form at Euro 2024 Harry Kane is probably a fortunate man to make a combined XI but he is still one of the world's very best. Meanwhile, Chelsea fans might have been surprised to see Marc Cucurella in a conversation for any combined XI going into the tournament.

Check our Roy Keane and Gary Neville's team below.

Jadon Sancho back in Manchester United training

Three years ago, Jadon Sancho came on for England in the Euro 2020 final against Italy. He was one of three stars to miss his penalty.

After the first half of this season at Manchester United, he couldn't have looked further from the England squad.

He rediscovered his mojo at Borussia Dortmund and helped them to the Champions League final.

If he can reintrgrate at United and continue his form, can he find a way back into the England team?

He's still only 24.

Spain hit the grass

Spain have been breathing in the fresh air at their Donaueschingen training base before they embark on a gigantic journey across Germany to Berlin.

Google is telling me it would be a 468-mile trip by car taking almost eight hours, and it's a similar timespan by train.

Watch out for the danger boys in the first photo - Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.

England's ticket allocation branded a 'mockery' and 'unfair'

The good news? England have sold out their allocation - and you can bet your bottom dollar they'll bring an atmosphere to the game.

The bad news? Three Lions followers have been allocated just over 10,000 seats in an Olympiastadion which is holding 71,000 fans this tournament. The rise in selling tickets and spaces to corporate clients is a money-guzzling move which prices fans out of the game and deprives teams of the best support they can get.

What do you make of it?

09:27

How are you rating this England fan chant?

England fans have been throwing their hat in the ring for an X-Factor triumph with their chanting ahead of the final.

What do you rate their singing?

I'll give the effort a 9/10, dancing 6/10, and singing a 4/10. That's coming from someone whose singing would be a 0/10, just to cover my back.

09:23

Where should YOU watch the final? BBC or ITV?

Both the BBC and ITV have broadcasting rights for tomorrow's final, leaving viewers with something of a conundrum.

Mail Sport has put together a definitive guide to help you weigh up your options.

  • How does Mark Pougatch compare to Gary Lineker as a presenter? One of them only gets a five...
  • Whose pundits come out on top... and which former Man United star gets the WORST rating?
  • How about the commentators and co-commentators? Missing Clive Tyldesley?

Anyone taking a trip to the final?

This intrepid English fan has revealed that he is setting off on a 25-hour journey - via Greece - to make it to Berlin just to soak up the atmosphere for the final.

That's commitment right there, I'll give him that.

Do you any of you have similarly ludicrous journeys in mind?

08:51

An extremely worrying stat for England

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but I could not resist on this one.

In the last 26 finals involving Spanish teams in the men's game - across the World Cus, European Championship, Champions League and the UEFA Cup/Europa League - Spanish teams have won... all 26.

Now, the stats ultimately don't affect what happens on the pitch, or at least not in my opinion. It's probably a small confidence boost to the Spanish stars, but of course they'll all be focusing on the task in hand.

Still, 26. That's insane.

Marc Cucurella has been a sensation at Euro 2024 - but how could you bank from him playing against England?

Spain have done Euro 2024 the hard way. Italy, Croatia, Germany, France? No problem. And Marc Cucurella has thrived under the pressure.

He found form towards the end of the season with Chelsea, but most would regard him as a flop there after his £62million switch from Brighton two years ago.

How has he turned it all round to be one of Euro 2024's best defenders?

On the subject of Cucurella, Betfair have superboosted him from 1/4 to evens to commit one or more fouls against England here. Odds correct at the time of publication.

Bukayo Saka's Diary Room episode

What I would do for an actual Big Brother series consisting purely of England stars. Now that would be fascinating.

Outside of fantasy world, we have to settle for England's 'Diary Room' episodes, which are still pretty entertaining.

In the latest epiosde Bukayo Saka shares who has 'changed all of our lives', which England defender has 'made him better' in training, and gives an insight into his approach to golf.

A fun watch.

Having reached a top speed of 23.18mph to be the fastest player in the Premier League as recently as 2022-23, Kyle Walker knows a thing or two about speed.

England players unwind in the pool

It's lucky they're doing this in a swimming pool and not the River Seine...

England's stars have got some great moments in swimming pools under Gareth Southgate - the pictures of Bukayo Saka on a unicorn at Euro 2020 are, perhaps, some of the keys to eternal happiness.

And the lads have been hitting the water again as they dust off the stress and get in the zone ahead of Sunday's final. You can watch their paddling and splashing here.

The Killers get behind England

In case you missed it, The Killers were happy to indulge the desires of England fans at one of their concerts at the O2 Arena in London and play the final moments of the win against the Netherlands - a good time to pick.

Here Harry Kane and John Stones reflect on that madness.

My one quibble - one outlet from across the pond said they did it in honour of the 'championship game'. Championship game? No, just no.

Southgate in line for a new deal?

First up, a story which might have been more divisive a couple of weeks ago but which, according to fans we've spoken to, is probably more popular now. Even Rory Jennings is on Southgate's side now, and that's saying something.

The FA are keen to try and keep Gareth until the 2026 World Cup regardless of tomorrow's result.
