Lamine Yamal beats Jude Bellingham to ANOTHER trophy as Spain super-starlet is awarded Goal of the Tournament for his Euro 2024 semi-final wonder-goal against France

  • 17-year-old helped secure Spain's passage to the final with strike vs Les Bleus
  • Yamal was also named Young Player of the Tournament after beating England
  • His head coach Luis de la Fuente called the goal 'a touch of genius' at full-time

Lamine Yamal has pipped Jude Bellingham to receive UEFA's Goal of the Tournament on his major tournament debut for Spain at Euro 2024.

The 17-year-old super-starlet enjoyed a blistering stint in Germany as part of Luis de la Fuente's victorious Spanish side and finished Sunday's final in Berlin as one of the standouts of the competition.

The La Masia graduate was named Young Player of the Tournament on the heels of his contributions for La Roja, as well as hoisting the trophy aloft after defeating England 2-1 at the Olympiastadion.

The Barcelona winger can add another honour to his roster, with a goal that made him the youngest scoring in Euros history at just 16 years and 362 days old.

Yamal's contribution helped draw Spain level with France during their semi-final, with the teenager firing from north of the box to sending a pitch-perfect curled effort past the stretched glove of Mike Maignan.

La Roja claimed the match 2-1 to book their final against England, with Yamal setting up team-mate Nico Williams to put the side ahead just after the half-time break.

Yamal's winning strike represents another victory over an England runner-up, with Bellingham's sumptuous overhead kick against Slovakia pushed down to second place in the standings by UEFA's technical observers.

Members of the organisation including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, David Moyes, Fabio Capello and Rafael Benitez deemed the England midfielder's goal second-best, with Xherdan Shaqiri's goal against Scotland ranked third-best of the tournament.

The forward - who retired from international football after Switzerland were knocked out by England on penalties in their quarter-final meeting - saw his only goal in Germany make him the only player to have scored in the last three World Cups and the last three European Championships.

Also prized by the technical observers was Nicolae Stanci's stinger for Romania against Ukraine in their group stage match in fourth, and Arda Guler's fifth-placed strike for Turkey versus Georgia.

Yamal's team-mate Fabian Ruiz also saw his goal against Croatia make it into the top 10 in seventh place - one ahead of Ollie Watkins' semi-final lifeline against the Netherlands which helped England through to Sunday's final.

Rounding out the pack were Turkey international Mert Muldur's volley - also against Georgia - in sixth place, Mattia Zaccagni's last-gasp equaliser for Italy against Croatia, ranked ninth, and Xavi Simons' wonder-goal versus England, in tenth place.

'We saw a touch of genius from a footballer who we all need to take care of,' said De La Fuente at full-time reflecting on Yamal's goal against Les Bleus

'I would like him to work with the same humility and keep learning with the same attitude and maturity he shows on the pitch.

'He looks like such an experienced player already and hopefully we can all enjoy him for years to come.'
