Scott Parker's dream start as Burnley manager continued with a 5-0 thumping of Cardiff at Turf Moor.

After opening their season by drubbing fellow relegated side Luton 4-1 away, the goals continued to flow, with an early own goal by Cardiff keeper Ethan Horvath followed by goals from Luca Koleosho, Josh Brownhill, Zeki Amdouni and Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

Parker, who took over from Vincent Kompany this summer, said: 'I know five goals have gone in, but I'm probably more pleased with the way the team dealt with the start and how we nudged and kept jabbing our way to a point where we can execute and go and win the game.

'The level of performance, the deadliness and the clinical edge of this team is there for everyone to see, so we're really positive and upbeat and we need to keep rolling with that.'

Wayne Rooney praised the Plymouth fans after he took a much-needed point with a 1-1 draw at home to Hull. Argyle suffered a nightmare 4-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on the opening weekend but got back on track at Home Park with Ibrahim Cissoko's goal early in the second half, only to be pegged back by Lewis Coyle 10 minutes later.

'The fans were great, a really good atmosphere,' said Plymouth boss Rooney. 'They got behind the team right from the start. The moments we need to capitalise on are when the crowd are right behind the team.

'The fans were excellent today, again. They gave me a great reception, which I'm grateful for. Hopefully we can keep picking up points over the next few weeks.'

Preston are already on the hunt for their third manager of the season after interim boss Mike Marsh left following a 3-0 defeat at Swansea. Ryan Lowe quit after being beaten 2-0 at home by Sheffield United and Marsh's reign lasted just 90 minutes, with chairman Peter Ridsdale confirming after the game he would not be taking charge of any more matches.

Bristol City came out on the right side of a topsy-turvy clash with Millwall, surrendering a 2-0 lead in a shock second-half turnaround before late goals from Fally Mayulu and Scott Twine earned a 4-3 win. Millwall, Preston and Cardiff are the only three teams to have lost their first two games.
