Team USA dub Olympic village 'The Villa' in nod to Love Island as single athletes look to hook up... and some have already had success!

While most athletes are heading into the Olympics beaming over the opportunity to represent their nations and compete under the brightest of lights, others rave over matters outside athletics.

As teams arrive in Paris for the summer games, Team USA rugby sevens star Ilona Maher likened the Olympic Village to 'The Villa' from the reality show Love Island.

Over the weekend, Maher posted a TikTok video expressing her excitement to 'find love' in Paris during the games.

'I cannot wait to get into the Olympic Villa, it's gonna be a crazy summer,' she says in the clip. 'Honestly I'll probably be the fittest bird in there.'

'It's called the Olympic Village, this isn't Love Island,' the person behind the camera responds.

'Yeah, I guess if we wanna say that,' Maher continued. 'But I still wanna try to couple up early on. It is the early days but at the end of the day, I'm there to find love.'

'No you're not, you're there to play rugby,' the other person said.

In her caption, Maher also claimed 'I got a text!!'

Days later, Maher posted a video on her Instagram, bragging about how teammate Naya Tapper got somebody's Instagram 'at the Villa.'

'She just stared this dude down, [then] he stared at her,' Maher said. 'Then he came over here, the power.'

Meanwhile, Tapper credited her feat on 'eye contact' as Maher continued to rave about her.

The International Olympic Committee made special 'anti-sex' beds for the Paris games to prevent extra-curricular activities from the athletes - several of which, have tried to debunk the sturdiness of the beds' cardboard frame.

Nevertheless, Maher and USA Rugby's quest to make the Olympics a quest for love and gold medals will continue as they open pool play against Japan and Brazil on July 28.
