Jonathan Owens picked the perfect word to describe Simone Biles after his wife's latest Olympic triumph this week: 'Warrior'.

Biles became the most decorated American gymnast of all time on Monday after inspiring USA's victory in the teams finals at the Paris Games.

By doing so, the 27-year-old swept up the eighth Olympic medal of her illustrious career - and a fifth gold - meaning she has surpassed Shannon Miller's previous record of seven.

The gold-medal win also marks a return to the pinnacle of the sport for Biles, who withdrew from various events at the previous Olympics in Tokyo three years ago due to a mystery mental health issue.

And after completing her inspirational comeback, NFL-star husband Owens paid tribute to his 'warrior' wife on Instagram.

The Chicago Bears safety also drew criticism on Tuesday night after sharing a loved-up photo of him and Simone while wearing her Olympic gold medal, with fans branding his behavior 'odd'.

Owens, who was allowed to leave the Bears' preseason training camp to go and watch Biles in action, has been touring Paris while in the French capital this summer.

On Wednesday he shared photos on Instagram of his trips to iconic landmarks including the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre.

Fans were left fuming after Owens was seen proudly wearing Biles' gold medal on Tuesday night.

In a post celebrating his wife, he posed next to her with the gold around his neck and wrote: 'Witnessing history every time you step on the mat - Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful I was there to see it'.
