People are all saying the same thing about Olympic Games star's wife after he was slammed for 'cruel' public swipe at his partner

Basketball fans have made light-hearted jests at Boomers star Jack McVeigh following Australia's elimination from the Olympic Games in Paris.

McVeigh, who has become renowned for sharing motivational messages on social media, drew criticism earlier this week after sharing a seemingly 'cruel' interaction with his wife after the Boomers' opening game loss against Spain in Paris.

'I got mad at my wife after my first Olympic game. "You are so talented," she said,' his tweet read.

Supportive and nice, right? Well, according to McVeigh, she was missing the point.

'"It's not talent. It's dedication." I replied. One day you can wear the Aussie uniform. But are you willing to dedicate your entire life to trying?' he wrote.

Unfortunately, McVeigh was unable to channel his own motivational words as Australia fell to an overtime defeat by Serbia in the quarter finals, meaning they will not be able to emulate their bronze medal win in Tokyo three years ago.

As a result, some fans have taken to X to poke fun at the NBL star who is set for a big move to the United States.

'I am more nervous than Jack McVeigh's wife trying to deliver a compliment right now,' one fan joked on X.

Another said: 'I dare Jack McVeigh to tweet after this game.'

'I wonder if Jack McVeigh's wife is proud of him today?' asked a third fan.

'Can someone get Jack McVeigh's wife to tell him he's s*** actually,' said a fourth.

'Jack McVeigh is going to be so angry at his wife after this game,' quipped a fifth.

Despite Wednesday morning's disappointment, all is going swimmingly for the 28-year-old, who married his wife Bethany this year.

McVeigh is one of the team's standout players and his great form has seen him earn a contract with the NBA's Houston Rockets.

He will face off against national teammate Josh Giddey, who plays for Chicago Bulls.

But Giddey was beside himself with disappointment after the loss.

Giddey could not hold back his tears after falling in Paris.

'We put ourselves in a great position to win that game. And we come up short like that in overtime. So it's heartbreaking,' Giddey said.

'And it kills me that I have to wait four more years for another chance at this. But, man, I'm so proud of this group. I love this team. And you know, our coaches, our fans, deserved a lot better than this.

'I don't really know how to sum it up now. It's so raw and soon after the game. But you know, I just I love this team. And I believed we had the group to go all the way.

'We've got to wait another four years and this feeling sucks and it's going to hurt but you know, it's going to build us. And we'll be back in LA (2028 Olympics).'
