British version of New York's Met Gala is set to take place in London next month - with guests including Kate Moss, Oprah and Justin Bieber

It is the most glittering fashion event of the year and attracts celebrities from Beyonce to Madonna, all trying to earn coveted headlines as the night's 'best-dressed'.

And now the theatrical looks will appear on London's streets, as a British version of the Met Gala is set to take place next month – with a guest list including Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne and Princess Eugenie.

Vogue boss Anna Wintour, who considers New York's annual Met Gala her 'baby' and personally approves the theme and guest list, is expected to attend the 'Vogue World' event at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden on September 14.

The US event is held at Manhattan's Metropolitan Museum of Art on the first Monday in May and always generates global headlines.

Wintour is hoping the London event will be equally headline-grabbing. A source said: 'Celebrities will come from across the world and their outfits will be something to behold.'

The UK event, overseen by Bafta-winning film director Stephen Daldry, has been described as a 'celebration of the British performing arts'.

It will feature a performance from rapper Stormzy, launch London Fashion Week and is expected to raise millions for organisations including The National Theatre, The Royal Opera House and The Royal Ballet.
