Mel B has been criticised by fans after she dyed her Yorkshire Terrier Cookie bright pink for a dog 'spa day'.

The Spice Girl, 48, came under fire on Instagram on Thursday after she uploaded a video of herself blow-drying Cookie's newly-dyed pink coat with a hairdryer.

The comment section was flooded with followers who urged Mel to just let dogs 'be themselves' rather than changing their fur colour.

Mel captioned the post: 'Cookie spa day, You know I take Cookie everywhere with me. We always have a good time getting all the beauty treatments'.

But fans weren't impressed by the colour change as they blasted: 'nooooo let dogs and animals be themselves! Their coats are gorgeous colours and don’t need dye to show them off' (sic).

Others said: 'Nope!' and 'Has she got pink hair?'

'So your Cookie is pink?'.

Mel carried on the pamper evening with a face mask and uploaded the video of her applying it on her stories.

Scary Spice has a close bond with her beloved Yorkshire Terrier and previously joked she was 'easier' to handle than Victoria Beckham.

Speaking during her Brutally Honest & Fabulous show in 2019, she said: 'So Cookie joined us on tour.

'I didn't even want this dog, to be honest, because my friend bought it for my family for Christmas.

'But I fell in love with her and now she comes everywhere with me. She's easier than Victoria to handle - and cheaper.'

Earlier this month, Mel revealed she's been kicked out of the Spice Girls' WhatsApp group, for spilling the beans about a potential reunion.

But Victoria has poured cold water on the frenzy by stating there will categorically not be a musical reunion, much to fans' disappointment.

Appearing on This Morning with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, Mel tried to defend herself by setting the rumours straight.

She said: 'There's nothing to say… I don't keep saying it. I've said it and then it got taken out of context.'

Alison asked: 'I heard you got kicked out of the WhatsApp group as well?' to which Mel admitted: 'That always happens to me… because I say things.

'You know, I get so excited when it comes to Spice Girls, because it is 30 years. And you know, we've got a lot to celebrate the fact that we're all still healthy and living life and all talking still.'

She added: 'It's nice, so I can't say anything else to get myself kicked out!'

Mel previously confessed she'd been banished from the WhatsApp group with  Victoria, 49, Geri Horner, 51, Melanie Chisholm, 50, and Emma Bunton, 48, over her chatterbox tendencies.

Under strict orders to remain shtum, she tried to keep tight lipped on possible plans for the band on The Jonathan Ross Show last month, but also confirmed that there was 'definitely' something in the works.

She said: 'We are wanting to do something and we are but I can't really tell you because I'll get kicked out of the WhatsApp group again so I have to be really careful.
