Kate Beckinsale cheekily moons department store from apartment window in flashback video

Kate Beckinsale took to Instagram on Monday with a throwback clip in which she mooned out the window of an apartment building in an attempt to inject some humor into what was a tough time.

The English actress, 50, referred to the June 2023 death of her beloved cat Clive and another unfortunate occurrence in the caption of her post, which intimated that the clip was more than a year old.

The Prisoner's Daughter star, who shares her 25-year-old daughter, Lily, with ex Michael Sheen, 55, said the clip was filmed 'the day after Clive died' and just prior to receiving 'some of the most horrific news ... that next morning.'

In the clip, Beckinsale was clad in a black T-shirt with black sweatpants and white sneakers with her light brown locks pulled into a ponytail as she mooned out of a window to release stress amid the tense time.

'Sometimes there’s nothing for it but for your friend to show up as hard as possible and spend the evening making prank calls and mooning Harvey Nichols,' Beckinsale said, 'because sometimes when the bottom falls out of your world the only response after crying till you’re sick is your own bottom.'

The Vacancy actress, who wore multiple gold earrings and necklaces in the post, tagged her friend, actress Nina Kate, 46, thanking her for comforting her in her time of need.

'I’ll never forget you jumping into the fire with me,' Beckinsale said.

Beckinsale in June of 2023 informed her Instagram followers about the sad news of the death of her cat, who she owned for nearly two decades and frequently featured on her social media.

'Every single part of my house feels like he should be in it,' the Underworld star said at the time. 'If anyone is expecting to hear from me, you may not for a bit and I'm sorry. My heart is absolutely and totally broken.'

Beckinsale received kind responses from fellow celebs such as Anya Taylor-Joy and Seth Rogen at the time.

She would get a tattoo in memory of her late cat in August of 2023 and honored her late pet months later in a Thanksgiving day post last fall.

The Fool's Paradise actress said: 'Thank you for being with me through every single thing and loving me fiercely and unconditionally for almost 19 years... 

'The gratitude I have for the privilege of loving and being loved by you is boundless . My god how I miss you, my Clive xxx.'

Beckinsale received a mixed bag of reactions to the clip, with some users critical of her actions, while others appreciated the way in which she battled through the difficult time with a sense of humor.

'I once admired you for your grace and sophistication, but I now see I was mistaken,' one user wrote, while another said, 'You're too classy for this.'

One user said, 'In the saddest of moments, I've realized humor and great friends are gods blessings,' while another said, 'Love how you navigate through trauma with humor, no matter how ridiculous.'

A user said to Beckinsale's critics, 'Did anyone read the caption? She was going thru a lot. Laughter is what she needed. Go on Kate.'
