Drew Barrymore is heading to Australia for the first time in five years.

The actress, 49, will grace the stage as the guest of honour at wellness brand Wanderlust's 'True North' event.

And in a candid interview with the Sunday Telegraph ahead of her visit, Drew has opened up about her ongoing battle with self-doubt, despite her phenomenal success.

'I used to be the most unsafe place I ever knew, that's why I was always outward or I would drink or I would do many things to escape this cage,' she admitted.

'I don't know, I am going to be 50 and I have to build a house in here that is pleasant to be in because the outside world is not within my control...'

'I want to be able to turn inside myself and know I can find some quiet, which is a shocking turn of events.'

The actress also reflected on the struggle of self-criticism, and said she feels like each person looks at themselves with 'negative self talk, that is critical and unaccepting.'

Drew, known for starring roles in Charlie's Angels and The Wedding Singer, will be sharing her life's journey with audiences at the ICC Sydney Theatre on August 2 and the Brisbane Convention Centre on August 3.

Since then, she has consistently maintained top-tier status throughout her career, delivering numerous box office hits.

The actress moved into television presenting in 2020, when she became the host of her own syndicated talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show.

In a candid interview with the Sunday Telegraph ahead of her visit, Drew opened up about her ongoing battle with self-doubt, despite her phenomenal success

In April, Drew said she was 'thrilled' to appear on stage in Australia where she will speak with a handpicked array of talent including Tones and I, Terri Irwin, Emma Watkins and Baker Boy.

'My life's journey has been an extraordinary odyssey, and I am absolutely thrilled to share my life story from my triumphs, setbacks, and everything in between in Australia, one of my favourite countries, at Wanderlust True North,' she said in a statement at the time.

'This will be an unforgettable evening filled with heartwarming laughter, joy and an abundance of soul-stirring moments that will inspire you to be the best version of you, and as Wanderlust highlights 'Find your True North',' she added.

'I used to be the most unsafe place I ever knew, that's why I was always outward or I would drink or I would do many things to escape this cage,' she admitted
