A Good Morning Britain regular has been rushed into intensive care after a 'nightmare' hospital dash.

Iain Dale is undergoing emergency surgery to remove his gallbladder after a long three hours in A&E.

The 62-year-old broadcaster and political commentator often appears as a pundit on the breakfast programme, as well as being a presenter on LBC and various podcasts.

He initially thought he was suffering from 'a nasty bout of food poisoning,' which left him absent from the radio on Monday, but Iain's symptoms soon worsened and he realised his condition was more serious.

He took to X (formerly Twitter) to update his fans on Tuesday morning.

He wrote: 'Firstly, thanks for all the good wishes. I went to A&E last night at 9pm with acute pain on the right hand side of my chest.

'I am now in intensive care awaiting an operation to remove my gall bladder. Not ideal. In fact, it’s a nightmare. NHS care at Tunbridge Wells hospital is so far outstanding.'

He had previously kept his 274,000 followers in the loop throughout the process, tweeting a snap from inside the accident and emergency unit on Monday night with the caption: 'The reason I’m not presenting my show this evening…'

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, he added: 'Three and a half hours in A&E and it looks like a gall bladder issue. They’re running tests. Might have to come back tomorrow.'

Now, Iain's latest update has prompted shock and well wishes from fans, who flocked to the social media app to write:

'Jesus! Get well soon!'

'Wishing you a speedy recovery Iain.'

'Good luck! hope it all goes well!'
