Bindi Irwin's husband Chandler Powell has announced he is about to embark on a adventure to research crocodiles.

The 27-year-old wakeboarder shared the news to his social media on Wednesday along with a tribute to Bindi's dad, the late Steve Irwin.

Known as the Crocodile Hunter, Steve died in 2006 at the age of 44 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Chandler shared that he would be spending a month on the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve which is located on Queensland's Cape York.

As a tribute to Steve he included an amazing photo of a crocodile's 'foot'.

In the picture a human hand can be seen resting against the hide and 'toes' of a giant reptile.

Chandler added a caption that read: 'The Australia Zoo Crocodile Research Trip is officially here!

'We’ll be spending the next month on the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve tracking crocodiles to learn more about them. It is such an honour to be part of this incredible, important work. Check out this dinosaur foot!'

'I hope we get to meet this awesome crocodile again!' Chandler's mother-in-law Terri Irwin added to the post.

Chandler is expected to make the trip with Terri, 60 and his wife Bindi, 26, and their three-old daughter Grace Warrior.

His brother-in-law Robert, 20, has already committed to the adventure.

The I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here host and Gold Logie nominee announced earlier this month that he would be returning from Cape York for the Logie Award ceremony in Sydney on August 18.

It comes after shocking footage emerged earlier this year of Chandler almost being bitten by a crocodile.

He was attempting to feed the reptile with a small fish in his hand when the large animal took a snap at him.

Chandler quickly tossed the snack to the beast which caught the fish in its mouth.

Sharing the clip to his social media in January Chandler wrote 'snack time with Daisy.'

In the clip, Chandler was the spitting image of his late father-in-law Steve 'The Crocodile Hunter' Irwin.

Many of Chandler's followers quickly took to the comments section to marvel over the clip.

'Daisy is one hungry croc,' one wrote, as a second person added: 'Aww, she's adorable'.

Chandler first met his wife Bindi in 2013, when the American former wakeboarder went on a guided tour of Australia Zoo in Queensland.

Following their chance meeting, Chandler wrote to Terri to ask her permission to contact Bindi before they embarked on a long-distance relationship.

He eventually relocated to Australia from his home in Florida, and now works at the family's zoo on the Gold Coast.

The couple married on March 25, 2020 and welcomed their daughter Grace Warrior on their first wedding anniversary.

Bindi and Chandler, and her brother Robert and mother Terri Irwin, are proudly carrying on her late father Steve Irwin's legacy as a Wildlife Warrior and conservationist with their work at Australia Zoo.
