He's known as one of the most down to earth stars in Hollywood.

And Sydney-born legend Hugh Jackman, 55, has shared a throwback video that will no doubt warm the hearts of millions of his fans.

Posting to his social media on Wednesday, Hugh paid tribute to film crews he has worked with, calling these workers the 'unsung heroes' of movie making.

Hugh celebrated their achievements by revealing a quirky on set tradition the Wolverine star said he started long ago.

Hugh said that when he is making a film he would share out 'no draw' lottery cards.

Known as 'scratchies' each crew member would receive a card every Friday. To play users must scratch off the plastic on the card to reveal prize winning symbols.

Down Under 'Scratchies' can cost as little as $1 to purchase, and can yield prizes of as much as $10,000 for a lucky winner.

Hugh included a video of himself playing a scratch card on the set of his last film, the box office smash Deadpool & Wolverine.

'Fiver! I'm taking it,' he said in the clip.

Hugh also used the post to thank all the film crew members he has worked with over the years.

'I can't remember the exact reason why I started giving out Scratchy's on Fridays.'

'Maybe it's because I wanted the cool kids to like me … or maybe it's because I wanted to make sure I said hello to each and every one of the people that work tirelessly to make the films.'

'This is why you're a legend, you treat everyone with great respect,' added another follower.

Another impressed fan said: 'So many actors, singers, sportsman... are called 'stars'. They often are not, because they treat us 'normal' people as sh**. But YOU, you ARE a real star and you show [that] anytime anywhere how to be the real deal.'
