Hollywood megastar who's dead ringer for Tim Walz hints he is open to playing Kamala Harris' VP pick on SNL

Social media users have reached a consensus on who they would like to see portray Kamala Harris' vice presidential running mate, Tim Walz, on Saturday Night Live

Just one day after Harris, 59, announced her selection, the public began to feverishly speculate over which actor would play him on NBC's late-night comedy show.

Following confirmation that Maya Rudolph will reprise her role as Harris on the program during the 2024 presidential race, many were left guessing who will be her scene partner in SNL's political skits this election season.

While the list of names pitched on X included stars ranging from Kelsey Grammer to Drew Carey, the clear front-runner was none other than Steve Martin

On Tuesday, Martin’s name quickly began to trend on X (formerly known as Twitter) as many remarked on the uncanny resemblance between him and the governor of Minnesota, 60.

Following Walz's selection, one X user wrote: 'SNL get Steve Martin on the phone NOW.'

That post earned more than 9,000 retweets.

'If Steve Martin becomes an SNL regular for the first time because of Tim Walz it will be the best evidence of a miracle I've ever seen,' another wrote.

A third fired: 'If we don’t get Steve Martin as Tom Walz on SNL I’m gonna be disappointed at the missed opportunity.'

Others admitted they would be 'crushed' to see any other actor play Walz.

The digital media company, Betches, even shared a 'Harris Walz' campaign poster with Rudolph and Martin on it.

After seeing the posts, the legendary comedian, 78, weighed in on the buzz over him possibly playing Harris' running mate.

'I just learned that Tim Walz wants to go on the road with Marty Short,' Martin quipped in a post, uploaded to Instagram’s Threads.

Martin was referring to his and Short's upcoming live shows, titled The Dukes of Funnytown, which are set to take place across the country this fall.

Later, Martin confirmed that SNL creator Lorne Michaels offered him the gig.

'I wanted to say no and, by the way, he wanted me to say no,' Martin told The Los Angeles Times. '"I said, 'Lorne, I’m not an impressionist. You need someone who can really nail the guy.' I was picked because I have gray hair and glasses.'

Martin stressed that one factor in his decision to decline the offer was that it is an 'ongoing commitment.'

'It’s not like you do it once and get applause and never do it again. Again, they need a real impressionist to do that. They’re gonna find somebody really, really good. I’d be struggling,' he told the outlet.

Ever since President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the race for the White House, fans have been encouraging the chameleon-like actress to reprise her role.

'Guuuuurrrll you heard right? Take a nap while you can cause you bout tah be Busy AF. #Kamala2024,' advised one fan on Instagram.

'Are you currently putting your Kamala wig on? We are waiting, MAMALA,' wrote another.

In a 2019 interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Harris stated she was flattered by the portrayal.

'I will tell you that I fully intend to make sure she (Rudolph) has a good eight years of work on SNL,' she said at the time.

The versatile actress earned an Emmy award in 2020 for her portrayal of then Senator Harris.
