Chris Hemsworth celebrates his 41st birthday with $7 supermarket cake - after budget dessert choice for his 40th sold out around Australia: 'In touch with the common man'

Chris Hemsworth may be worth millions, but he loves nothing more than a cheap birthday cake.

The Australian actor celebrated his 41st birthday this week with a AUD $7.05 white mud cake from supermarket chain Woolworths

The Thor actor shared a video of himself enjoying the treat all to himself in an Instagram video on Monday.

Described on the website as 'a soft and fluffy sponge topped with gorgeously glossy white chocolate icing and finished with swirls of dark chocolate for an indulgent addition', the lowkey dessert is a favourite with Aussies.

'I just wanna say thank you for all the the birthday love or the birthday wishes,' Chris said in his video.

'I didn't actually get any photos yesterday, so I went and bought myself a cake and I thought I'd do a little, little, little private celebration and I got some champagne as well,' he explained.

Chris added, 'Got myself some flowers. That's the thing. You know, when you get older, you kind of realise that the circle of people around you, the people you love, gets smaller and smaller.

'So that's why it's just me. But not to worry, as I said, I got myself a delicious cake and some bubbly and a little arrangement there.'

'Thank you for all the birthday wishes! Another lap around (the) sun and still going strong. I can safely say not a single piece of cake made it through the night,' he wrote in the caption.

After the photo was posted, fans flocked to Woolworths to sample the dessert for themselves.

Priced at AUD $29, the cake is described as a 'light sponge with a luscious chocolate buttercream, topped with a Belgian dark chocolate drip.'
