The Block's original presenter Jamie Durie 'regrets' quitting the TV smash hit after its 2004 season.

And the stripper-turned TV star is looking to take back the role from the show's current co-host Scott Cam, according to a new report.

Durie, 54, who presented the series' first two seasons from 2003 - 2004, is 'hurting' at seeing the show become a regular ratings success, an insider told this week's New Idea magazine.

'It hurts!' said the insider, adding that 'if the opportunity came up to host it again, there's no way he would pass that up.'

Jamie's on-screen chemistry and cheeky nature was often cited as one of the key reasons the first two seasons of The Block were such a success.

However, Channel Nine decided to rest the program at the end of the second season's run in 2004, and when it was revived for a third series in 2010, the larrikin builder Scott Cam was now the host and Durie was nowhere in sight

Durie has since been featured on several reality and lifestyle programs for competing networks Channel Seven and Channel Ten, including Dancing With The Stars and The Living Room.

It comes after Scott Cam revealed this year's contestants on The Block will be doing it tough on Monday night's premiere.

The renovation show's host dropped a brutal surprise on the Blockheads - they will be camping on the building site.

While this typically happens during the first few nights, Scott revealed that the teams won't stop roughing it any time soon.

On previous seasons, contestants start by building a bedroom in their homes, allowing them to have a space to stay in as they work on the rest of the house.

However, on this season, the first room the Blockheads must construct is the main bathroom, which means all five teams will be camping in tents on-site for at least the first week of the competition.

The current series of The Block was filmed earlier this year in the popular Victorian tourism hotspot Phillip Island.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal a Channel Nine-owned company purchased Island Cove Villas on the Victorian Island for a whopping $9.5million.

Situated two-and-a-half hours from Melbourne, the site currently features nine homes, a communal pool, a BBQ pavilion, tennis court and a children's playground.

The Block continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine
