Emily in Paris star looks unrecognizable after shock hippie transformation - as baffled fans ask: 'Is that really him?'

One of the stars of Emily In Paris is unrecognizable after a shock makeover that left him looking straight out of the 1970s.

The 36-year-old French actor won the hearts of the show's audience with his Gallic charm and his clean-cut matinee idol features.

But now, in a new photo-shoot promoting the fourth season, he has transformed completely to exude the hippie chic of New Hollywood.

His cloven-in-marble complexion is concealed behind a healthy stubble, as well as long hair that fell over his face and a splashy pair of red shades.

When images of his new look surfaced on Instagram, incredulous fans flocked to the comments section to express their disbelief.

So can you guess who he is?

The mystery actor is Lucas Bravo, who stars on Emily In Paris as Chef Gabriel, one of the love interests of Lily Collins' title character.

His dramatic outfit included a faded denim jacket thrown over a red and white print polo shirt, amplifying the 1970s effect of his hairdo.

Lucas debuted the makeover while gathering with his Emily In Paris castmates for a photo-shoot near the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles.

Amid an array of co-stars including Lucien Laviscount and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Lucas was the unforgettable standout because of his revamped appearance.

One Instagram commenter apparently failed to even recognize him, writing: 'Whos the dude with 70’s dress aesthetic? Cool.'

'What happened to Gabriel?' marveled another, while a third exclaimed: 'Where’s Gabriel?????' and still another giggled: 'What happened to Gabriel lol.'

Some fans even wondered whether Lucas will be sporting his 1970s look in the next season of Emily In Paris, which bows on Netflix on Thursday.

However, in a new teaser for season four, Gabriel can be seen looking just as he did in previous seasons - clean shaven with short hair.

Lucas hails from a famous family in France, as the son of the former footballer Daniel Bravo, whose sports career unfolded across the 1980s and 1990s.

After working as a model, he shot to global sex symbol status on Emily In Paris when the show debuted on Netflix in 2020 and became prime lockdown viewing.

He confessed the following year that he was 'working against' his 'heartthrob' image because French filmmakers 'don’t want good-looking. They want broken faces.'

Lucas said he was 'objectified overnight' when Emily In Paris became such a success, and argued that with the prevailing trends in French cinema, stars 'can’t be aesthetically beautiful and be smart or have depth.'

He added: 'I kept getting roles like the dumb gym teacher. It’s hard to break that image. I’m not complaining, of course, but it’s a reality,' via the Times

More recently, he has acted in the upcoming French horror comedy The Balconettes, co-written by Portrait Of A Lady On Fire director Celine Sciamma.

He is also playing the infamous 'gentleman robber' Bruno Sulak in an upcoming biopic called Libre, directed by Inglourious Basterds star Melanie Laurent.

Since he became a star on Emily In Paris, his Hollywood work has included Ticket To Paradise, the 2022 romantic comedy with George Clooney and Julia Roberts.
