Comedian Andy Lee is known for his quick wit.

But the Gold Logie nominee has now shared a moment from early on in his TV career that left the fan-favourite speechless.

Appearing on KIIS FM's Will and Woody Show on Wednesday, the 43-year-old explained how the cringeworthy drama began when he was presenting at the ARIA Awards with his comedy partner Hamish Blake nearly 20 years ago.

The much loved duo were about to hand out the prize for 2005's Best Country Album when disaster struck.

'I opened the envelope live in front of 16,000 people at Acer Arena and around about 800,000 people watching on television,' he said.

'There was nothing in the envelope, so I guessed the winner [Keith Urban].'

A video of the heart-stopping moment can still be seen on You Tube in which a visibly shaken Andy appears to be momentarily stumped.

Elsewhere in the chat, Andy confessed that he and Hamish 'knew' country superstar Urban was 'gonna win'.

It comes after Andy and his fiancée Rebecca Harding celebrated their recent engagement by kicking off their ambitious $5 million renovation project in June.

The glamour couple toasted to new beginnings by throwing a chic garden party outside their Melbourne mansion, known as Ravenswood.

The scenes of renovation - peeling ceilings and stripped walls inside the grand old structure - did little to dampen spirits.

After a decade together, Andy made the decision to propose to Rebecca, 31, sharing the tender moment on his popular podcast with co-host Hamish Blake.

The news, which brought joy and tears to their close friends, including Hamish and his wife Zoe Foster Blake, marks a new chapter for the beloved Australian comedian.

Meanwhile, Lee and Harding have battled rumours they have secretly wed for years.

Engagement rumours were sparked in 2020 when Lee posted a photo of Harding hiding her left hand while celebrating her 30th birthday.

'Is there a ring she's hiding with her left sleeve?' one eagle-eyed follower wrote, keen to see if the pair were about to share exciting news.

Andy faces stiff competition in the Gold Logie race.

The other contenders include Tony Armstrong, Robert Irwin, and his I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here co-host Julia Morris.

Sonia Kruger, Asher Keddie, and Larry Emdur are also up for the prestigious gong.
