She shocked fans when she checked herself into rehab last year.

She said: 'I’ve had a lot of ups and downs. It’s been quite a journey. I went to a dark place.

'There was a lot of not eating—and I started to think being hungry to the point of feeling almost faint was a positive thing.'

The Timber hitmaker added that the compliments she was receiving about her figure did not make it any easier as she said: 'The worse it got, the more positive feedback I was getting. Inside I was really unhappy, but outside, people were like, “Wow, you look great."'

After talking to her therapist about what she was going through, she called her mother so they could seek help. Kesha checked herself into a rehab facility in the Chicago area in January 2014.

The pop star said: 'I went to an eating-disorder specific rehab site where a nutritionist taught me that food is a positive thing for your body.

'I realized being healthy is the most important thing I can do for myself. Now, I’m trying to embrace the skin I’m in. It’s difficult sometimes.

'Every day I have to look in the mirror and make the choice to be kind to myself. This is who I am—I have to love that.'

In more recent months, Kesha has looked great in her public appearances showing off a more healthy and toned figure rather than a gaunt one.

She is even so body confident that she often posts pictures of herself showing off her flat stomach in midriff-revealing looks.

Most importantly, it seems she has found the power in positive thinking as she has taken precautions like not paying attention to what is being written about her on the internet.

Kesha said: 'I surround myself with positive people. I run a few miles on the beach every day, and I got into Transcendental Meditation to try to find some peace in my crazy life.

'[It reminds me] to be grateful for where I am, for my body, and my face—as imperfect as any of it may be.'

Showing off: Kesha definitely seems to be making progress since her one-month stay at a rehab centre outside of Chicago in January 2014
