Pedal power! Kesha enjoys a bike ride with her boyfriend Brad Ashenfelter after releasing her new single Praying

She's recently released her first music in four years - the emotionally-charged Praying.

And Kesha kicked back for a leisurely bike ride with her boyfriend Brad Ashenfelter, on Saturday.

The 30-year-old singer channeled a hippy vibe, as she pedaled her way around Venice, California.

She chose a loose-fitting rainbow top, which covered over her skimpy shorts.

Her black slides had a rose print, but did not appear to be the most sensible cycling shoe.

Pink heart-frame sunglasses covered the Tik Tok hit-maker's eyes.

She was sure to protect her face from the blazing sunshine, donning a black floppy-brimmed hat.

The star made her comeback earlier this week, with the release of Praying - a  powerful ballad which is about her allegedly abusive relationship with her former music producer, Dr Luke.

'Am I dead? Or is this one of those dreams? Those horrible dreams that seem like they last forever? If I am alive, why?' she asks.

'God, give me a sign, or I have to give up. I can't do this anymore. Please just let me die. Being alive hurts too much.'

The stunning video sees the seemingly hope-free singer stranded on a raft in the middle of the ocean.

Other shots show her dressed as an angel, playing a piano in an eclectic desert shack, praying in a derelict building and running through the vast openness with a flag.

And while it's colorful, it definitely takes on some dark themes.

'Well, you almost had me fooled / Told me that I was nothing without you / Oh, but after everything you've done / I can thank you for how strong I have become,' she sings.

''Cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell / I had to learn how to fight for myself'.

In an essay penned for Lena Dunham's blog, Lenny, Kesha spoke about the emotion behind her latest single.

'I have channeled my feelings of severe hopelessness and depression, I've overcome obstacles, and I have found strength in myself even when it felt out of reach,' she wrote.

'I've found what I had thought was an unobtainable place of peace. This song is about coming to feel empathy for someone else even if they hurt you or scare you.'

'It's a song about learning to be proud of the person you are even during low moments when you feel alone. It's also about hoping everyone, even someone who hurt you, can heal.'

And after enduring a period where she 'didn't want to get out of bed', Kesha says her latest single is about finding hope when everything feels hopeless.

'Praying was written about that moment when the sun starts peeking through the darkest storm clouds, creating the most beautiful rainbow,' she explained.

'Once you realize that you will in fact be OK, you want to spread love and healing... Don't let anyone steal your happiness!'

Her forthcoming album, Rainbow, will be released on August 11.
